Will we hold our first weekly Seattle Drupal Dojo meeting this Thursday 1/27? Will this also be the next planning session for the Seattle Barn Raising?

Picking up on the Seattle Drupal Dojo thread: http://groups.drupal.org/node/108129. There seems to be a consensus that we should hold our Weekly Dojo Meetings on Thursdays, every Thursday, except for the day of the Seattle DUG / co-working meeting.

We would potentially start early afternoon and go until early evening.

Jennifer reminds us that there is a database of possible venues on http://seattle.drupal-camp.org/

Any Comments?
Other suggestions?

1st Barn Raising Planning Meeting

tomogden's picture

I apologize in that I have a trip out of town this Thursday. I will be available all other Thursdays following.

Regular reviews of the project would be good. I'm not sure about a face-to-face each week--if some of us could skype in, that could be good.

Right now we are awaiting review by the client and a chance to schedule a sit down with them to nail down the final requirements.

Hi,

I am sorry that you won't be here Tom but, I would like to go to the meeting Thursday. I feel like it would help me to know more of what I need to do and see what happens at a Dojo meeting.

Will there be other people there that will be working with us? Where will the meeting be?

I am really looking forward to this.

Seattle Dojo Meeting - Tomorrow Thurs 1/27 1pm to 3pm

eric_sea's picture

Let's meet at Mosaic in Wallingford this week (http://seattle.drupal-camp.org/venue/mosaic-coffee-house)
It is in the basement of the church behind Dicks. The entrance is on 44th street and there is parking in the lot between the Church and Dicks.

I suggest this selfishly, because I can stay longer if we meet in Wallingford. I'm happy to go elsewhere but then I'd have to cut out by 2:30. I may be in the minority in terms of this being a convenient location and I'm all in favor of finding a location which optimizes convenience and participation.

Perhaps people can let us know, in comments here, what their favorite spots are and then we can set up a poll to decide on a more regular location.

Sadly Tom, Project Manager for the SGS Barn Raising will not be able to join us tomorrow, but I will be happy to show anyone interested what we have setup in the Dojo/Kata to assist. I'm also happy to try to have a skype call or see if we can use the Dojo's GoToMeeting space if there are others that would like to join us virtually.

Does Mosaic from 1pm to 3pm work for 1/27?

why are we meeting during the day?

robst's picture

Is there a specific reason the meeting is during the day, instead of at 5pm or 6pm?

We've talked about starting

eric_sea's picture

We've talked about starting in the afternoons and going into early evening following a similar schedule to the monthly co-working / DUG schedule. We've also talked about trying to hold to the same day as the monthly DUG meeting simply to keep things as consistent as possible.

There seem to be several people who were able to make Thursday afternoons work and there was interest in getting getting together this week... so here we are.

I'll post a few notes regarding our afternoon discussions if someone else is interested in picking up the conversation or coordinating a separate co-working tomorrow evening. We can also pick another venue that is open into the evening on Thursdays starting next week. Any suggestions? Perhaps Tom or someone else can coordinate next weeks meeting.

Hi Tom,

How do I send you an attachment?

Annette

Attachment at Dojo

Annette,

You can attach your document on the SGS dojo:

Feature Requirements

Edit the page and upload your document as an attachment.

Give Tom the same URL and he can download the document.

URL lost in email

jdwalling's picture

I noticed that embedded URLs don't survive in the email:

SGS Feature Requirements page:
http://drupalkata.com/sgs/node/1359

URLs excluded from email notifications

eric_sea's picture

Not sure why that is... I will add it to the case tracker for the DrupalKata website http://drupalkata.com/website/casetracker and see what we can do to explore the issue.

Notification issue on g.d.o.

jdwalling's picture

I experienced the email notification problem with URLs on the seattle group.
I haven't checked the drupalkata email notification.

The embedded links in email

eric_sea's picture

The embedded links in email notices from GDO and http://DrupalKata.com seem to be working fine. I am going to eliminate the case posted to the Kata case tracker which was call for an exploration of this issue.

Breaking down the SGS Requirements

eric_sea's picture

Breaking down the Feature Requirements and publishing them on the DrupalKata.com (the Dojo site housing Drupal Open Learning Projects)...

The Book pages on the Kata are editable - 'wiki-like' pages, with change tracking and comments possible with each update. Putting these specification into the book pages rather than using external attached documents or version control will help to simply management.

See:
* Case: Break down Requirements and publish them in /sgs/requirements Book
* Example within the Requirements book: Hosting

What about Saturdays?

tomogden's picture

Since the Barn Raising event, as I understand it, will probably be over a Saturday, my inclination is to hold meetings on Saturday mornings. What do you think? Certainly not everyone can be there every week, but that's just as true for Thursday afternoons, and maybe we can attract more of a new crowd.

Say 8am Saturday morning? Include a Skype conference call to make it easier (CALL ME:tomogden21 or 206-855-6200). Finish promptly by 9am.

Tom/* Ogden

Location, location

jdwalling's picture

RE: next planning meeting for SGS barnraising/drupalkata

An 8am Saturday meeting works for me if it is within 15-20 minutes walking, which include Downtown, Belltown, Cascade/South Lake Union, and southern half of Capital Hill.

I find these coffee houses good for meetings:
* Top Pot - 2124 5th Ave - Sat 7am-7pm
* Uptown Espresso - Belltown - 2504 4th Ave (4th & Wall) - Sat 6am-11pm

John Walling

Location, location

tomogden's picture

Sounds good. Whichever location works best for the group. I may be one of those on the Skype link.

Can we piece together an agenda? Including things like:
- Requirements review
- Work staging
- Design concepts
- Event calendaring

Anything else that comes to mind?

Barn Raising event

adwyer's picture

I'm not sure I can go every Saturday, but I am ok this Saturday. Could it be where there is parking and does it need to be that early? I will be there, just need the time and place.

Annette

Annette

not quite so early?

robst's picture

Saturdays are OK, but I agree that later would be better, especially if people can be there in person as opposed to telecon (as I feel telecon's are less productive). 10am or 11am? (even 9am is better)

Just my $.02.

-- Robert

How about 9am?

tomogden's picture

Earlier helps people get on with their day, but I understand the need to moderate your schedule on the weekend.

Tom/* Ogden

9am is great -- where?

robst's picture

Where do you want to meet on Saturday? If people are going to be calling in, it will need to be somewhere that isn't too noisy.

-- R

jdwalling's picture

I suggest the last meeting place, Mosaic Coffee House, since we are agreeing to meet at 9am.

It has free parking and is on the quieter side of the sound spectrum and WiFi bandwidth is outstanding.

Cancel my suggestion - Mosaic is CLOSED on Saturday

How about Top Pot (5th Ave), 9am, Sat. 2/12 ?

robst's picture

How about John's suggestion of Top Pot (2124 5th Ave), tomorrow (Sat. 2/12) at 9am?

-- Robert

Let's DO it.

tomogden's picture

At this late juncture, if you can recommend it, that sounds as good as any place.

Tom/* Ogden

Confirming

jdwalling's picture

Top Pot (2124 5th Ave), 9am, Sat. 2/12 - confirmed

Go to the second level where tables can be moved together.

-- John Walling

Top Pot

adwyer's picture

Is Top Pot a donut shop, that was all I saw when I went to map quest and none of the addresses matched. Is that downtown and is there parking?

Annette

Annette

Yes, donut shop, street parking

robst's picture

Yes, Top Pot is a donut shop (2-story) on the east side of 5th Ave. There's lots of street parking in the area (parking garages, too), or it's near bus/trolley service.

-- Robert

I'd suggest a few min up

eric_sea's picture

I'd suggest a few min up front on capturing process/progress:
- requesting a volunteer to take minutes
- capturing notes,
- posting events on g.d.o. and
- creating tasks under http://drupalkata.com/sgs/casetracker (even for things that get done right away). Just so that they are captured as something that was done
- blogging about tips / tricks / best practices related to this project on http://drupalkata.com/sgs

We will need to expand the values available under task status list and add new projects (groupings of issues/cases) as we move forward.

To Connect Remotely

tomogden's picture

I'll try to provide a Skype connection. Call me at tomogden21 or just call me cell phone (360-633-2580) to be brought in on a Skype conference call.
