User group meeting
We haven't had a meet-up in Montreal in a long time, so lets get together and talk about all things Drupal-y! D7, new modules/patches and fun projects are all on the agenda. Since D7's the hottest thing right now, we're gonna have a few presentations, each 7 minutes long, on anything ranging from contributing code to managing projects. Some of our talks will include upgrading our own site to D7 and Git and Drupal. Everyone's encouraged to contribute talks and participate in the discussion!
Refreshments (i.e. beer) will be served.
Date: Monday, Feb. 7
Time: 6pm - 8pm
Venue:
Evolving Web

Please choose one date
Flexibility have its costs. Please choose only one date.
Also, make sure using 18:00 to 20:00 and not 6:00 to 8:00, which is way too early for my taste. ;-)

I wanted to leave it to
I wanted to leave it to accommodate people's schedules. I've kept it at Monday, Feb. 7 at 6pm now.
Monday works
I'm new to Montréal and I've been trying to catch the last couple meetups... Monday works well for me. I'll put 18:00 Monday into my calendar.
With that in mind I should probably introduce myself. I'm a Drupal developer of two years. Prior to freelancing I worked in marketing-communications field with web developers. I have moved from Vancouver to Montréal to expand my Drupal business, launch a few web apps and hopefully make some new friends in the Drupal community.
I would like to volunteer my assistance to the meetups for the winter and spring. I need as many opportunities to get out of the house as possible! I am also willing to collaborate on a talk or pick a subject and demo some Drupal code at a future event.
Je parle français aussi, je voudrais trouver quelque projets bilingue. Maintenant je travail sur un projet de Übercart avec traduction de anglais à français. Je puis utiliser autre langues aussi, comme chinois, japonais, etc.
I'm really looking forward to
I'm really looking forward to this meetup! I've already posted some stuff about upgrading to Drupal 7 on our blog: http://evolvingweb.ca/story/upgrading-evolvingwebca-drupal-7 and would be happy to do a 7 minute talk about the upgrade process.
If anyone else is interested in doing a mini-presentation, please post it in the comments. It would be great to have at least four or five people presenting.
GWO Presentation
Is anyone interested in learning about Google Website Optimizer?
I could give a presentation on A/B split and multivariate testing with Drupal. Currently there is no GWO module for D7 but I'm looking into contributing one and in any case it is good general knowledge for a developer to have.
Sounds like a good topic!
Sounds like a good topic! There is a multivariate module out there (http://drupal.org/project/multivariate) but it only seems to have a handful of users. We've considered using the Panels module for A/B testing in the past, but it would be really interesting to hear about your approach.
Good point
GWO is much more widely used, has a few more features and offers the convenience of a user interface. But sometimes your MTV tests need to have awareness of server-side things (like say shopping cart contents), which is what multivariate is good for. So I could briefly explain it and cover a few use cases.
Also I'll have a D7 version of the GWO module on my laptop by then, if not in contrib.
Drupal.org Git Demo
I did a drupal.org git training session earlier this week, so if anyone wants, I can go over all the new functionality that is going to be added when everything switches over to Git.
+1 for this. I'm interested.

Add one more

I've been working on a few
I've been working on a few little modules I would like to present on. One is Amazon SES, which lets you send email through Amazon's brand new Simple Email Service instead of through your server's built-in mail sending functions or through a SMTP server. Amazon SES seems pretty promising.
https://github.com/rypalmer/amazon_ses
The other is a dependency of Amazon SES, and is called "creeper". It's basically a bucket for the Amazon SDK library and nothing else. I have no idea why it is called that, but I'll demonstrate a few examples at how to leverage it and thus the Amazon SDK which seems to be growing in functionality quite quickly.
Sounds like fun, but...
Monday's aren't good for me, so I won't be able to attend, make it a Wednesday next time!
Sounds like an interesting meetup though. I'm looking forward to having some time to start playing with D7. For now I'll make do with reading Suzanne's blog post.
Sorry you can't make it Mark.
Sorry you can't make it Mark. We'll try and make it Wednesday next time. You can read the blog post at home, but you'll miss the chance to try out our new foosball table!
Count me in.
See you folks there!
Lots of talks
I'm excited about this meetup! So far we've got these talks:
Anyone else wanna give a presentation?
Open data
I can give a 5-10 min talk on Open-data in Montreal. I'll go over a few of the websites that have already been created, what websites are in the works and how you can get involved.
Good idea Jeff! It would be
Good idea Jeff! It would be great to get more Drupal-based open data projects started in Montreal.
Looks like I'll be missing
Looks like I'll be missing this meetup due to laryngitis. My apologies.
Migraine
Désolé de vous abandonner à la dernière minute, mais une migraine (j'ai commencé à faire ça y'a deux semaines, ouch!) va me garder à la maison ce soir :(
Bonnes présentations, bonne soirée!
