Welcome all pal'ers from la belle province. A space to set up local meet-ups and create working groups for Quebecoise issues (internationalization anyone?).

Here are some notes that were quickly thown together regarding the upcoming DrupalCamp to be held in Montreal in October (probably) 2008.

Note that these don't even incorporate all the ideas that were present in the initial post about this event. So while this will always remain a work in progress, right now it doesn't even qualify as a first draft. This is a wiki page... please feel free to edit it.

That's right folks, Koumbit.org has decided to host a DrupalCamp in Montreal! While we are still at the very earliest planning phases here, the idea is to hold a 2-3 day open-space style event in Montreal the first weekend of October.

While bigger and better than the small meetups of recent years, it isn' t as crazy as a quarter-million-dollar DrupalCon.

Come find out what's hot and what's not about Drupal 6, internationalization, new modules, the Drupal association, the Montreal DrupalCamp2008 (oh yeah!) and much more. Depending on how many people show up, we may decide to break out into work groups to help move things forward on multiple fronts.

Anyway, whether you are a newby, a power user or a developer, don't miss this meetup!

BTW, this meetup will be held at the Bande-Passante (@BP: 8655 Saint-Denis, next to métro Crémazie)

Hi all.

In April, I will be moving to the Cornwall, ON area, and I am considering coming to your meetings, since Montreal is closer to me than Ottawa. Are your meetings generally French or English? I would guess English by the conversation in this group... but I figured I would double check. While I can understand some French, I would suspect that I would miss lots of the information were the entire meeting to be held in that language.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Last month we had a great time, meet a few people and discussed amongst other things the schedule for our meetups. We decided to make Friday's meetups in the afternoon, so in April we should meet the 11th at 14h. At a recent Koumbit meeting, we came up with a proposition to build a little momentum around Drupal in our beautiful city, by having regular themed meetups once a month, the second Friday (@BP) one month and the second Saturday (@WiFi) the other. This brings us to this Friday, when you're all invited to Bande-Passante (@BP: 8655 Saint-Denis, next to métro Crémazie) from 19h to 22h to talk Drupal. In March, we could meet Saturday the 8th in the afternoon at any Café with wifi (île sans fil map). Leave a comment to suggest a bugfix for the schedule, location or format :)

Drupal Open Market during DrupalCon

omar's picture

omar - Sat, 2007-09-15 15:50

Hey folks!

Do you need to build a website? Are you a developer that provides Drupal solutions for clients? Do you represent a Drupal shop that is looking to hire Drupal developers or to establish collaborative relationships with other Drupal shops? If you have answered "yes" to any of these questions, this meetup is for you!

In the world of open source software the name of the game is "coopetition" and Koumbit embraces this concept completely. We therefore invite you to the first Drupal Open Market in Montreal. The goal of this session is to allow:

1) users to find and compare Drupal services providers,
2) for Drupal services providers to meet other Drupal shops to evaluate potential collaboration,
3) for Drupal shops to find developers to hire, and
4) for developers to meet each other, etc.

So I'm thinking Friday, the 21st... how does that sound to you folks? Once we get a few comments, we can pick the date before Monday.

We can't all make it to Barcelona for the DrupalCon so come on down join the party in Montreal!

We will be getting together Wednesday, April 4th from 1pm - 5pm @ Bande-Passante for yet another meetup.

The difference this time is that you all have enough forewarning and have no good excuse not to show up. ;-)

The other difference this time is that we will structure the meeting in a "show and tell" format. After all, often one of the hardest things in Drupal is choosing which methodology is the most appropriate for any given task. So we'll discuss the challenges we have faced and the solutions that we have come up with resolve them. So while you still have the option of tooling around with your projects (e.g. the stuff you have to do for work), there will be tons of valuable stuff to learn.

Anyway, I hope to see you all there.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Angie (webchick) the other day and we came up with a few ideas regarding the planning of meetups in Montreal.

The main conclusion was that, given that there seem to be as many people wanting these things to take place on weekends as there are people who would prefer them on week days, we thought that it might be appropriate to alternate between the two. Note that we also thought that it might be nice to alternate the location of the meetups too between the Bande-Passante and other locations... some of which have yet to be identified. Based on the above, I came up with the following proposed schedule for the next couple of months:

As for a date... ummm... I dunno, how about the 29th? This would give us time to get the invites out in time for orgs to adjust.

As for a place... ummm... I dunno... any suggestions?

Finally, as usual I will try to secure a small budget for this activity from koumbit.org gang. Of course, your contributions are welcome too.

Koumbit.org was honoured to host Montreal's first ever Drupal Developers' meetup this last weekend. Having a great tool is only a part of what makes the Drupal community strong. The rest stems from the increasingly vast network of individuals and organisations that are proactively providing each other with technical, logistical, financial and emotional support. While we are still at a relatively early stage in the whole "coopetion" game, there are many reasons to be hopeful and Koumbit is dedicated to helping in any way that it can.

Start:
2006-07-28 19:00 EST - 2006-07-28 22:00 EST

My good buddy chx is coming to visit from Hungary at the end of July (the 27th - 31st). Let's show him a good time by doing some kind of hacking session some place in town. Any ideas on good venues, and anyone interested in coming?

How I picture this working is all the Montréal Drupal developer-types all meet at some public place with their laptops and do some pair programming, bug fixing, etc. I don't have the money to sponsor folks, but maybe we could all chip in and get some pizzas, etc.

If you're interested, please DON'T sign up to this event below, but instead go click the "sign up" button on Omar's Montreal Drupal Developers Meetup event.

Drupal - Asterisk Integration Works

davec611 - Mon, 2006-06-19 19:41

As far as I can tell, our site www.forestlake.ca is currently the only working example of asterisk drupal integration. I would love to be disabused of this notion, so if there are other working sites out there, please let us know.

At any rate you can read about the "Forest Lake Telephone Company" at this posting on drupal .org: http://drupal.org/node/59187 or you can just register and try it out on the forest lake site. Go to : http://forestlake.ca/forestlake/?q=node/466 for instructions on trying it out.

The good news in all this is that I have an asterisk server all ready and working with Drupal. If you want to install and test the asterisk integration module developed by Malthus, you can do so by downloading and installing the asterisk module (http://drupal.org/project/asterisk) on your site. (Important, as far as I know, the asterisk integration module only works so far on 4.6. I do not know what plans Malthus might have to upgrade).

Welcome all pal'ers from la belle province. A space to set up local meet-ups and create working groups for Quebecoise issues (internationalization anyone?).

Now if someone could upload a picture of a large size serving of poutine I think we'll have our identity nailed, n'est pas?
