June 25th Drupal Lab
We will be having the next Washington DC Drupal Lab on June 25th from 7 to 9pm. Like usual it is the last Wednesday of the month, and like usual it will be at Affinity Lab in Adams Morgan. The lab is located at 2451 18th St NW in Adams Morgan, and the entrance is to the right of The Diner.
Presentations will start promptly at 7:15pm, and all attendees are invited to talk about their latest work with Drupal, whether it is building simple sites or developing complicated modules. We are going to keep things very informal, and each presenter should talk for about 5 minutes, with time for discussion afterwards.
A projector and wi-fi will be provided, so feel free to bring your laptop so you can easily share things with the group. We have several different types of apple video connectors, but it might not hurt for you to bring your own if you have it so we don't have to fumble around too much.
Beer and soft drinks will be provided, though unlike some previous meetups there will be no food. Feel free to stop at one of the many restaurants in the area and bring you snack or dinner with you.
See you all next week!

Porting and backporting
Alex from Development Seed, and I (from Roswell Infographics and CITI) are interested in sharing tips on porting from 5 to 6. I'm also interested in some backporting. (Maybe of Add1son's lovely new submitted-by module, for instance?)
I'll be at the meetup, and look forward to facilitating growth of these skills... both in myself, and in the community!
I'm not particularly skilled in this area; Hopefully we can do a little training, and maybe even plan a special porting event.
(What modules are you "waiting" for, before upgrading to 6? Let's start a porting movement!)
Margie
Upgrades
If you're interested, it's a good idea to look at the converting 5.x to 6.x http://drupal.org/node/114774 . I will first talk briefly about the most important changes between 5 and 6 and in the casual part of the meetup people interested could put their heads together and upgrade (start upgrading) one or the other (simple) module.
Any suggestions as to which modules to take a look at?
Solr -- current challenges
I can talk about -- I'll could touch on:
Solr a Drupal perspective.
Where the current module stands.
Life cycle.
Maintenance and Monitoring.
Benchmarking data
I'd be able to do a demo of
I'd be able to do a demo of the context module that I (and all the rest of the devseed crew) have been talking about lately. I'd like to walk though setting up a site using context and context_ui so that people can see what kinds of things it makes easier and get click-by-click walkthough of how it can be used.
Drupal Lab Tonight
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to remind you that tonight is the monthly Drupal Lab. People have volunteered to talk about some exciting and informative topics, so this should not be an event to miss!
See you all soon!
Mike
About what?
I'm considering coming out, but what are these "exciting and informative topics"?
What's the closest metro
Guys,
What is the closest metro to this place?
Thanks,
Arman.
Metro
Columbia Heights is probably the closest. You'll be able to make it from Woodley Park as well. But there's no Metro stop in Adams Morgan, so expect to walk a bit.
For future reference (or to find a bus, which will be much more convenient): http://www.wmata.com/
Walking from Dupont (not too bad)...
I'll have to check out the Columbia Heights route next time.
I live in NoVA and normally get off at the Dupont Circle Metro.
From there I can take the MetroBus up 18th Street to Adams Morgan but the walk is not bad if you have comfortable shoes (and good weather).
Metro again
Woodley Park is the closest one, actually. Just cross that beautiful bridge over Rock Creek Park (Calvert St) and you'll be there.
The walk from Woodley Park is real nice
Ended up walking to and fro from Woodley Park -- real nice -- specially going over the bridge
Even in yesterday's sweltering heat.
Arman.
