Accountant at March SeaDUG?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

As per recent #drupal-seattle discussion, how many would be interested in having a CPA at March SeaDUG (w/ web production and freelancer experience) to discuss relevant issues for independent contractors and small businesses? Also, if interested, what specific concerns would you like addressed?

If the level of interest is high enough, I would be happy to coordinate this. I have c CPA in mind, but will work with the group to evaluate others, as there might be better ones for this specific subject matter.

It is critical that

It is critical that independent contractors and small shops get this right. I know of businesses that were forced into chapter 11 for not staying on top of these critical issues.

It could even be a panel of a couple of CPAs perhaps one small / one large...

...But it should be more of an informative presentation on how to do it right than a sales pitch from a individual firm.

Agreed on all counts!

Agreed on all counts!

Sounds great

Great idea. By that time hopefully I'll have met with a tax accountant already this year, but general advice is still good. Topics: how to keep records that will make your CPA happy, common pitfalls for self-employed folks to avoid, stuff like that.

Separate event

I would attend a presentation like this, but perhaps it would make sense for it to be a separate event, outside of the monthly SeaDUG meeting, since it could easily take 90 minutes.

Definitely interested, and

Definitely interested, and also +1 on separate event.

Any accountant who works with freelancers should be very happy with the leads a drupal user group would give. :-)

There's certainly merit to

There's certainly merit to making this an event in itself, but then there's the burden of planning another event. On the other hand, the more I think about this, the more I'm realizing that a 15 minute preso / 15 minute Q&A might be quite limiting for something of this nature.

Would love to get other voices on SeaDUG / separate event for this.

Markabur: Great stuff on key topics!
