Single sign on between groups.drupal.org and drupal.org

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

If by "the next version of drupal.org" you mean when drupal.org is running on Drupal 6, yes. There's OpenID support in Drupal 6.

GDO und drupal.org have different user tables. How would Open ID help with single sign on?

This thread is 8 years old. I don't know exactly how it was implemented but it's already been implemented.
