Hey Ryan, I LIKE the idea of carpooling so count me in. In the spirit of commenting, one set of options for getting us there could be:

PacificCoach.com: return tickets from downtown to Victoria for $92/pp. But their earliest bus wouldn't get us there in time so I've emailed them to see if they can arrange a group something, which would leave Victoria Saturday eve at say 6 pm.

...or alternately...

Budget: The 12 person Ford E-350 according to Budget.com would cost about $300 incl taxes + insurance per day x 2, + gas. Let's assume $700 per bus, with the benefit of mobility in Victoria.

Mobility is good, being able to shuttle people to Beerfest will be essential!
Lets just all hope there are some willing designated drivers...

On the transport issue for beer fest, the tickets come w/ a complementary bus pass and Rene is willing to use my van to shuttle folks around as I will be unable to drive after an hour at beer fest ;)

If you can walk on the ferries, let me know what your ETA is and i can pick up groups of 6 at a time and shuttle folks to town. I will also be available for transporting people to the ferry at the end of the camp.

Already we got: me, fathamburger, Audrey, Boris, Amir, Dale, maybe Katy and maybe DaveO.

Dave hasn't got back to me yet. If you are near Dave right now, ask him to do so. This was his idea after all, after his frustrating, bus & border debacle.

@Katy - Not sure when we will leave or where from yet. I'm flexible.

@fathamburger - I usually like my own room. But can you do some hotel research for us, price and proximity? It would be nice if we were all in the same area.

@Richard, I can share designated driver duties with Rene. I'd rather not drink around so many flickr users.

This camp sounds great. I'd love a ride and would be happy to share a hotel.

Here's what I got just based on recommendations from the main site itself

Accent Inn Victoria - $139-149 single, extra person $10 each
Red Lion Inn $100 a night (two beds)
Victoria Hotel Howard Johnson - $169 (two beds), both deluxe and handicap
Thetis Lake campgrounds and trailer park - $20 per 2 persons, electric $2, sewer $1, water $1

I've made a reservation at the Red Lion Inn already for one night, $116 incl. GST There are two beds so I'd be happy to split that with somebody otherwise it'd go to waste.

Thursday night or Friday morning? Friday morning is looking awfully early....

Thursday is really the day to come over, we are planning on having a social get together that night as well. Watch the site for an announcement on that today or tomorrow...

My van's looking a little too mini for all this action. Time to look into that 12 seater for rent Amir had mentioned. I can still be the designated driver. I've got my bus and taxi license for what it's worth.

If there's a social thing, we can leave Thursday after work to get there on time.

@katy - Not sure. I might be able to pick you up on my way to the rental place wherever that will be.

Amir did some research for us and found a 12 seater for us, thanks Amir! @nessachu, there was one cancellation, so there should be room for everyone who has commented on this thread so far including yourself.

Other good news is that this will be funded from the Vancouver Drupal Camp coffers. Thanks to DaveO for hooking us up! This will cover most of the costs involved - rental, insurance, gas, etc. There are a few extras such as ferry fees but we'll do the math and get back to everyone.

Ryan, do you have a tentative itinerary yet? Just to get some idea of what my Thursday will look like I'm wondering where we'll all be hooking up and what time.

I don't want to impose on the Rain City folks but can we meet at your office Thursday around 5pm? Everyone knows where it is since we hold user group meetings there.

6:00 - Depart Swartz Bay

Ferry Fares per person will be $14.25. If you could have that on hand at the ferry, that would be great.

The rest of the cost will be determined as soon as I get confirmation from everyone, but the Drupal Camp Vancouver leftover funds will cover most of it. (Van Rental + Insurance, Gas, Ferry fare for Van the possibility of getting charged an extra day) I'll contact each of you directly to confirm and trade cel phone numbers. In all likelihood Thursday evening should be pretty slow, so this should not be a problem. Thought I would include the text from the reservations site just so you all know.

When do I have to check in at the terminal?

Reservations should be claimed at the ticket booth 45 to 60 minutes prior to the scheduled sailing time. If you are not checked in 30 minutes prior to the scheduled sailing time your reservation will not be valid and you will travel stand-by. Since the terminal may not have room to accommodate early arrivals during peak traffic periods we cannot accept reservations more than 60 minutes prior to the scheduled sailing time. The reservation fee for unclaimed reservations will not be refunded.

I'm sorry to change things last minute, but I was able to arrange pickup of the rental van 1 hour earlier. The original itinerary was too tight, especially after hearing of Gord's advice to claim our reservation 45 to 60 minutes ahead. I was not aware of that, and that's just not possible during Vancouver rush hour.

3:00 - I pickup the Van
4:00 - MEET AT RAINCITY
6:00 - Ferry Reservation
