2008-09-25 18:00 America/Indianapolis - 2008-09-25 20:00 America/Indianapolis

On Thursday Sept 25th we are honored to have Josh Brauer visit us for our meeting.
Josh is our Sponsor and I believe that nearly all of us possess a Drupal book that his money has paid for! THANKS JOSH!!
Josh also started a new gig this week with www.Acquia.com
TonyV is once again offering his conference room AND buying PIZZA for us all. I'm giving away 2 copies of Pro Drupal Development 2ed.

How best to exploit Josh for all he's worth?

How do we want to take advantage of having Josh with us? Reply to this post and offer your suggestions.
Giving us a better handle on what ACQUIA is about is one thing that will happen. Beyond that?????

PLEASE reply to this post with ideas on how to benefit from having Josh with us.

Creating modules

sdudenhofer - Wed, 2008-09-03 20:58

One of the things I would be interested in learning more about, is creating/editing modules. I know they are created in php, but what about using different API's to communicate with different web pages/services.

Best Practices?

My conversations with Josh have taught me a lot about some best practices. It can be hard to find drupal help that follows best practices... maybe that would be a good topic.

I spoke with Josh

I asked him to speak on Drupal Deployment. By that I mean this.
When Josh begins to deploy a new Drupal6 site he does not goto Drupal.Org and download the TAR file and unpackage it into the user's WWW dir.
Instead, Josh takes one of his own deployment packages [he may have a better name for that] and unpacks it.
What Josh, and many other Druplers, have is a compressed file that contains the newest version of Drupal AND Many of the modules they anticipate using AND some custom modules AND maybe even some themes and possible even some database files.
I leave it to Josh to explain WHAT is in his packages and WHY they are particularly helpful to his deployments.
His overview of this topic will certainly not take the whole time so please continue to offer suggestions.
I have invited Josh to pop in and join the conversation. He is extremely busy right now and will join the conversation when time permits.

How to get to the meeting.

Take I-465 to the Michigan Road exit (#27)
Turn north at the end of the exit
Turn left at 96th Street (stoplight with McDonalds and car dealerships on corners)
Continue West on 96th Street about a mile
Turn right into Hoosier Village (well marked with lights and signs)
Turn left at the first road (will be before the first stop sign)
Building is slightly off that road, on the right hand side (north side of the street)
Building is two-story, stone building. Sign in front says IAHSA and PC.
Conference room is on the first floor, to the right in the first hallway.
[We will post signs in the Hoosier Village complex.]
any issues, give doug call @ 317-531-7216

Is there really only 4 of us and Josh coming?
Please register as attending so that we have enough Pizza and Drinks for everyone. :-)

Will try to make it

I'm hoping to make future meetings.

Thanks!

Gautam
