Where: Sydney University

Announcing the 2008 DrupalCamp Australia! It will be taking place on Saturday, October 18th from 9am - 5pm at the University of Sydney's School of Pharmacy.

We are currently looking for some good presenters and topics for discussion. Some of your favorite, dedicated, Australian Drupal developers will be joining us so don't miss out! Places are limited (Only 45), so sign up now!

Read on for all the details

Full Details

What
What is a DrupalCamp? For those of you new to Drupal or community events - Inspired by the BarCamp events, DrupalCamp is a small (to medium sized) gathering of like minded people to discuss and learn about Drupal, share ideas, get involved in the community, connect and network with people - the people you see so often online.

DrupalCamp Australia is a FREE event put on by the people, for the people and with the help of some friendly sponsors.
We will have a hybrid of formality - several presentations will be organized before hand and the rest will be filled in and figured out on the day. Which means we need your involvement! If you would like to make a presentation or have a topic for discussion, please post it as a comment to sessions list. We will take these presentations first when we are making the schedule on the day.

How Much $$?
Its $0 - FREE! Yes, in case you misread that, this event only costs your time and attention. We are accepting donations though. We are only able to provide this through the generous support of our sponsors. Even though it is free, we have limited resources and can only accommodate 45 people. So sign up quick!

When
We will have a full day of fun on Saturday, October 16th, 2008. We will open up for registration/greetings at 9:00am and actually get things kicked off at around 9:30ish and likely finish around 5pm. We will probably move to a nearby pub to continue the socializing and for dinner/drinks.

Where
We have secured a computer room(s) at the University of Sydney.

Faculty of Pharmacy
Pharmacy Building (A15)
University of Sydney
Sydney, NSW, 2006
listed at location E15 in the map of the Camperdown Campus
and a google map of the area and the building

If there are any special needs, please email me ASAP. There is handicap access to the building, and potentially hearing impaired services available, but I will need to confirm anything.

We will have signs to help direct people, but don't feel bad if you get lost and need to call. (Contact details will be emailed to attendees before the event)

Inside Plans

We are already confirming presentations from several well known Drupalers in Australia, including people from Sydney, Melbourne and the South Coast. You can find all the details about presentations over at http://groups.drupal.org/node/15165

Please add your ideas here!

Presenters should preferably bring their own computer, otherwise make sure to bring it on a usb stick in a standard format. Please contact me if you have any questions. All presentations should be posted on slideshare at http://www.slideshare.net/event/drupalcamp-australia-2008

I also encourage you to post on other sites (Flickr, del.icio.us, mag.nol.ia, etc) with the tag drupalcamp-au2008

Requirements
What you need to bring
- Topics & Questions to discuss
- Laptops
- Power Strips & Dongles for your laptops
- Business Cards and an open mind!!

Hi Ryan,

Make the attendees list a numbered list, that saves us counting... I just signed up, and now it's 26 people, it's growing fast indeed!

The Signup button leads to a page with a Cancel signup button instead of a Confirm signup so I am posting to make sure I get signed up.

Got it

rcross's picture
rcross - Tue, 2008-09-23 04:05

Hey Peter,

the system should also send you a confirmation email. Also, everyone should be able to access the "attendees" tab which will show who is already signed up - if your name is on that list then you're good. If not, then something is wrong.

The cancel button is there so that if you made a mistake, or somethign comes up and you can't attend, then you can remove yourself from the list and allow someone else the spot to attend.

Thanks.

Only 8 spots left!

rcross's picture
rcross - Fri, 2008-09-26 04:05

For anyone not paying attention or still debating about committing to come, there are only 8 spots left!

I've talked with the venue, and unfortunately we can't really get any additional room for more people so if you signed up and realize that you aren't going to really attend - please cancel your signup so that other people will be able to sign up.

Thanks!

Camp logo?

Jaza's picture
Jaza - Fri, 2008-10-03 07:07

I made a little logo for this DrupalCamp, just for fun. I'm no graphic artist, but if you guys like it, we can use it for a few posters (and whatever other marketing shwag you wanna produce).

Here's a reduced-size version of the logo. I also have it in SVG - let me know if you want that version, and I can send it to you.

What flights are people taking from Melbourne on the Saturday?
If anyone is staying over night, where abouts are people staying so we can continue this as a all night geek out session?

Hey guys,

Kind of need to figure out the food plans. Particularly lunch. I'm not sure if there are any special dietary needs, so please let me know. Also, trying to gauge what people want to eat.

1) Pizza
2) Sandwiches
3) Maybe thai/indian or something else?

Please post your preferences.

AliaK's picture
AliaK - Fri, 2008-10-10 07:21

hi, I'd like to come along to this if there's still spots available? I've been using drupal since about 2002/3 and have a few sites using it. have moved back to Aus this year. I went to a drupal day in brussels a few years back which was good.
www.aliak.com & www.brisbanedancepartiesarchive.com are the main sites - these days I use mostly core modules with a couple of contributed modules. I haven't written any modules but sometimes I modify existing ones if need be.
thanks
kath

davepoon - Wed, 2008-10-15 11:17

If you guys don't mind, I can take photos for the presentation,
I can upload the photos to Flickr, so everyone can easily view and download the photos.

Regards,
Dave

Sure!

Jaza's picture
Jaza - Fri, 2008-10-17 07:03

Please do. The more photos, the merrier. Uploading them to Flickr and making them public is exactly what I'd recommend.

Good! I'm excited for tomorrow!

davepoon - Fri, 2008-10-17 08:33

Perhaps we can even make e-newsletters or e-publications (web-based/PDF-based) when
gathering more photos and content. I can contribute to do the graphic work ;)
(Hope I won't forget to bring my camera tomorrow...)

thanks very much Ryan for

AliaK's picture
AliaK - Mon, 2008-10-20 11:19

thanks very much Ryan for organising a great day! and to all the presenters who spoke. it was great to meet those that I did. I didn't realise there were so many drupal people in Aus! (I've been o/s past 4years) I tried out some of the CCK/Views tips from the Marmaladesoul guys on one of my sites last night and initial tests are going well! & Sheree's demo of CSS Edit was great - I'd only done theme editing using text editor & painstakingly changing one thing at a time before (years ago) which turned me off themes, but it seems a lot easier these days so I'm going to have to try it again. very inspiring!!

I took some notes in the "B" room during the day - available here if anyone is interested (mistakes are mine - I haven't had time to listen to the audio & check the notes yet)

nice to meet you all

Quick Reminders

rcross's picture
rcross - Mon, 2008-10-20 12:20

I'm glad everyone had a good time on Saturday. I'm still working to get all the presentations posted and the audio processed, but will be up soon.

In the mean time, just a reminder for people.

1) Please use the tag #drupalcampau08 for posting any pictures or other stuff about the event. I would also appreciate if you could email them to "drupal at ryancross dot com"

2) Blog It!! And spread the word - if you've got a blog or other website where you can post news, please let other people know about what we have been working on and spread the love so we can have an even better event next time. Post a link to your comments back here so we can also track all the goodness

Also, just wanted to say I appreciate all the kudos from people who had a good time and thanks to everyone who helped out and also kept the venue clean.

Marmalade - Mon, 2008-10-20 22:38

Thanks again to Ryan for all your organisation. Thanks also the many presenters. It was certainly a great DrupalCamp and all the team came away with something fresh or something of interest to dig into.

It was also fantastic to meet so many of you and to share our love for all things Drupal. It's amazing to see each persons strength in the various aspects of Drupal come together to form a fantastic pool of knowledge.

We've posted an article over at marmaladesoul.com so feel free to go and poke around! :) We would love to use some of the photos on our site that both Dave and Jim posted up -- would that be ok? We would credit you for them with a link (let us know where to point it to).

Looking forward to seeing you all and hopefully meet some fresh faces at the next one!

Sheree

I can also send you a high-res version of the photos if you need.
