CompuMentor and the Community Technology Network are hosting this Drupal "Extreme Makeover" website workshop. The goal is three-fold:
* Provide 5 community technology-related nonprofits with functioning websites by the end of the weekend.
* Train the nonprofit staff on Drupal basics and site maintenance.
* Provide opportunities for the nonprofits and Drupal consultants to continue working together as needed.

We are looking for Drupal techies and consultants who want to participate as stipended "makeover artists" for this workshop, which will take place from the evening of Fri Nov 17th- Sunday Nov 19th. (Location TBD - in San Francisco). It will consist of a mix of assessment, implementation and training.

Training will be provided by CompuMentor, and will be focused at the Drupal user level, not at the techie/geek level: content creation/management, crafting navigation, etc. The nonprofits will not learn any coding. Sandbox installs will already be in place for each organization so that training starts at logging in. Nonprofits will leave with a working website (that may need some extra customization, theming and content migration) and knowledge of how to maintain it. At the end of the weekend, each attendee will be paired up with one of the "mentor/makeover artists" for any follow-on help. All content does not need to be migrated, but the process must be clear enough for the nonprofit organization (and Drupal mentor) to continue on their own.

"MakeOver Artists" - We want you, the larger Drupal community, to participate. The Drupal "MakeOver Artists" will mostly be needed Sat afternoon and all day Sunday for the planning and assessment. We are looking for a wide range of Drupal skills - you don't need to know it all, but solid skills in one of these areas is preferred:
* Site assessment and migration (simple, typically low-functionality sites)
* Site configuration / module configuration
* PHP coding skills for simple customization
* Drupal theming
(We may require proof of experience or references if we are not already familiar with you or your work.)

There is a stipend of $250. We are also asking the "mentors" to provide a few additional hours of free email/ phone based support after the weekend, and also be open about offering consulting work - and we strongly encourage consultants to offer nonprofit rates ((i.e. under $100/hr). ;-)

If you want to participate, please contact Michael (michaelmccarthy_sf at Yahoo) or Greg (consultinggoat at Sbcglobal NET) - "Extreme Makeover" in the subject line will expidite our response. :-)

More information - including location and nonprofits participating - will be coming soon. Watch this space. :-)

[CompuMentor nor CTN do not necessarily endorse any activities in the television show of the same name....]
