* How to plan your server architecture
* Client-side optimization- HTML, CSS & JavaScript
* Server-side optimization- Drupal, PHP, Apache, MySQL

Matt Cheney's Swish-E presentation now online
A screen cast of Matt Cheney's presentation on Swish-E Indexer module, from the June SF Drupal User's Group, is now online. Please provide feedback on what could be better (about the screencast; feedback on Matt's presentation can go to him... ;-)). I know the sound is low when audience members are asking questions, which is a challenge....
I got this up and edited in slightly less time than last month. Most importantly I got it done before the next SF Drupal User's Group (July 14th - look out for a post on this).

Planning wiki for Drupal booth at LinuxWorld Expo 8/4-8/7
Are you interested in helping to spread the word about Drupal? LinuxWorld Expo is coming to Moscone Center Aug 4-7. Come share, learn, and have fun with other Drupal and open source fans. LinuxWorld Expo is geared more towards enterprise solutions. If you're interested in open source (beyond Drupal), this is a great opportunity to learn from others and to share what you know about Drupal.
Possible dates for BADCamp 08 (Oct 11-12?)
The discussion for BADCamp 08 got underway at yesterday's BDUG meeting. I followed up with one of our administrators to get the dates of weekends in late September - early November when space is available, and there is no Cal football happening on campus (so parking is less of an issue than it was last year). It seems like there are two prime dates: Sept 20th & 21st, and October 11th & 12th. Of these two I am leaning towards October, so we are not too close to DrupalCon Szeged (which is the last week of August).

BDUG's new group page
The Berkeley Drupal Users Group now has it's own g.d.o: http://groups.drupal.org/berkeley-users-group-bdug.
This group replaces the old BDUG site at http://drupal.citris-uc.org. Thanks to the sexy new og_panels features, I don't need to maintain a separate site just to support our user group. And now I can't just cross post to the Bay Area group with the click of a checkbox, rather than copy-and-pasting each month.

On May 27 and 28th, the third NetSquared will take place in San Jose California. The idea behind NetSquared is to explore the use of the Web and emerging technologies to foster social change.
Our mission is to spur responsible adoption of social web tools by social benefit organizations. There's a whole new generation of online tools available – tools that make it easier than ever before to collaborate, share information and mobilize support. These tools include blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, podcasting, and more. Some people describe them as "Web 2.0"; we call them the social web, because their power comes from the relationships they enable.
I have been asked to present on Drupal as it relates to social change and the non-profit community. My background is heavily rooted in the non-profit world, having worked for various arts based non-profit companies. I also studied arts, technology, theatre, and non-profit management at Virginia Tech. My presentation will occur on the 27th between 4:45 and 5:45 pm.

To Panel or not to panel- that is the question
Hi everyone.
I wanted to know people's experience with Panel module and Panel 2 module.
I see you can use Panel 2 to theme input pages.
I am developing a site just using good ol' fashioned tpl.php files, views, and css.
What are the advantages to using Panels?
How much flexibility do you have to customize the panel?
What are the performance implications? It looks like a large module or set of modules.
Has anyone migrated their site to use panels?
SF-DUG May - Recap and thanks!
Thanks to Tom, Julie, Alan and Jason for coming by; Neil and Yas for presenting, and Mark for recording audio and doing a last-minute presentation.
We're working on linking the sound recording of Neil's presentation with his screen capture video. In the meantime, we spotlighted a number of Drupal modules Yas used in his companies Intranet site:
LDAP intergration module (http://drupal.org/project/ldap_integration)- works with Active Directory (Exchange) and - I'm pretty sure - Open Directory (Apple).

Berkeley Drupal Group - Thrusday April 24th, Noon - 1:30pm - ImageCache
Greetings Bay Area Druplers,
The secret ingredient in this month's Drupal kitchen arena is ... ImageCache (present and future)! This is an extremely useful module for Just-In-Time image manipulation, that is must-have in the pro's tool belt, but not as well known as it deserves to be. I am really excited that Darrel O'Pry (dopry), the creator of ImageCache, will be joining us to talk about ImageCache 2.x and the new ImageAPI. So we will start out with an overview of the present, and then get a view of the future.
See you there,
