AGENDA: Powerful Drupal Administration Using Drush, presentation by Chris Charlton

Long time LA DRUPAL luminary and author, Chris Charlton starts his new power tools series for Drupal & Drush that goes beyond the basics*. This is an ongoing series exclusive to LA DRUPAL monthly meetup audiences and will not be recorded.

Time to take things up a notch with your Drupal skills this year. Learn the higher level uses of Drush in this multi-part series and become the most efficient Drupal users in the world! If Drush is not yet a part of your Drupal workflow then you are behind and missing out. Do things faster and better with Drupal using Drush.

*Drush basics are covered in video screencasts available online recorded from our previous events.

About Stauffer New Media Development

Stauffer New Media Development is this year’s top sponsor of our big annual Drupal camp (DCLA 2011) and is headquartered in Los Angeles. Stauffer New Media Development is hiring and open for new clients - call us to join our team or to complete your Web projects.

AGENDA: less formal and interactive

  • BadCamp 2011 Recap -- Please come share your ideas about what you liked or didn't like about this huge free Northern California Drupal event! Share what topics change the way you work with Drupal.
  • DrupalCon Denver 2012 Session Proposal Local Preview - If you already have submitted a session proposal for DrupalCon Denver, or are planning to submit a session - we’d like to hear it! Share proposal details to the crowd and, if desired, solicit early feedback or suggestions. Giving the crowd a sneak peek may help your proposal when session voting starts.
  • Lightning Talks: come prepared to do a five minute talk of something related to Drupal you learned this month. Come share! No talk is too small, and we promise to be kind.
  • New 2012 venue for LA DRUPAL monthly meetups! Come get the scoop early.
  • Job Announcements: if you wish to announce a job opening, please contact one of the organizers before the meetup so we know to expect you. (important note: out of respect for our host, please do not solicit their employees for jobs)
  • Raffle Prizes - every attendee has a chance to win one of our awesome prizes!
  • Group networking and hanging out. Bring your business cards.

Miscellaneous Info

Venue
In addition to providing a large venue for our monthly meetups (and cool architecture), Media Temple also provides the LA Drupal community with free Wi-fi, food, snacks, and beverages (water, soda, & beer). Media Temple is a webhosting and virtualization service provider with one of the largest virtualization deployments in North America, with more than 85,000 customers and more than 600,000 domains on both coasts of the United States. Media Temple has been the exclusive party sponsor of DrupalCamp LA two years in a row. When looking for a host that supports community, please add them to your list to check out!

Parking
There is on-street parking as well as a parking lot on Hayden Ave.

Come Early
The meetup begins at 7pm but the doors sometimes open a little earlier (6:30pm) for eating, meeting, and Users Helping Users; which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for professional consulting from Drupal experts, there are plenty of Drupal pros who attend our meetups so be sure to bring your business cards or resume.

We want your feedback!
During the meetup, we'll be gathered in the #drupal-la IRC channel and all are welcome to join us. The event organizers will try to incorporate messages from Twitter for feedback or questions that mention @ladrupal or use the #ladrupal hashtag.

Presenters / Lightning Talks
If presenting, be sure to bring your laptop, power adaptor, and display cables... and whatever else you need.
Lightning talks are 5 minute presentations from attendees. They tend to be less formal -- and there are no questions during the talk (not enough time). People can ask you all their questions during the networking session. Consider doing a lightning talk if you’re new or planning to present for the first time. It'd be great if you have a lightning talk that fits with the evening's theme!
As always, please feel welcome to leave a comment below and let others know what you'd like to present ahead of time.

Drupal After Dark

I thought it might be nice to try Rocco's Tavern on Main Street in Downtown Culver City. It is a Pizzeria/Italian restaurant sports bar. I had a nice causal meal there. The drinks and food are served till 1:00a.m.

Lightning talk?

mike stewart's picture

Since the topic is about Drush, if anyone is interested, I can do a Lightning Talk that shows how to go from zero to a fully customized install of Drupal using Drush make and Drupal installation profiles -- in about 10 lines on bash command prompt.

@Stew-bee -- see you at Rocco's after the meetup!

Drupal Design Camp LA 2012 planning

oseldman's picture

I'd like to do a brief lightning talk or announcement about starting to plan for a Drupal Design Camp in LA in early 2012.

I'd like to give a brief summary of what we're thinking (not too much planned yet) and enlist anyone interested in helping to organize the event.

Christefano started a discussion, and we'll be adding a planning wiki page to provide space to collaborate.

Anyone who is interested (who won't be at the meetup, or otherwise) should feel free to get in touch with me directly and also to join the ladrupal-organizing mailing list to continue this conversation.
