Hi all -

I'm working with a non profit called Hope With Love to create a site, HopeOneSource, to use in their efforts to aid in collaboration of non-profits while working in relief efforts. This is a bootstrap effort and already has a large test group setup to support the efforts in Haiti. What I'm looking to do is overhaul and finish the site sometime in the next month so they can move into testing with these groups. The site will rely on gmaps, location, SMS and Notifications in order to help better the communication among relief workers in-country.

If anyone has specialties in gmaps, location, SMS or notifications and would like to join in the effort I'm willing to host a barn-raising and provide the food/drink for anyone that attends. This is a great organization that is just starting out and with the help of the Drupal community I think we'll be able to create a tool that will have a lasting impact on relief efforts.

If you are interested please either reply here with some dates that would work for you (most likely on a Sat.) or if you want more information please feel free to contact me via pm.

Thanks for all your efforts!

I built a site (private) for our community on the east side with 604 households. Household is a content type with a location field. These were all pre-entered. I added a node reference field on the users page so users (residents only) could reference themselves with a household. I also added a Boolean field that they could check to be shown on the map. I then made a page with a Google map that shows the households and the residents (only those that checked the Boolean though). This map is only available to residents. When you click on one of the icons on the map, the bubble shows the people that live there with a link to each users profile.

We used to have a phone book that was published and distributed once a year by a volunteer group. The intranet site replaces this as well as adds a lot more functionality.

There are a few bugs left in the gmap module but it can work well if you know what to stay away from.

Unfortunately I can't show the site or even show screen shots by request of the residents and board members.

I would be glad to help if I can.

Thanks MrPhilbert! I'm sure

Thanks MrPhilbert! I'm sure your expertise will come in handy.

I worked on the site a bit with a colleague in Columbia (really is an international effort here) and we found that using open layers we will be able to not only create the maps we're looking for but create views based on proximity to user and use that to drive rules for notifications (the true end point here). Don't know how much/if open layers and gmaps overlap, I'm new to the mapping world on Drupal but it'll be a great learning time for us all.

Look forward to seeing anyone who can make it this Sat. at noon at Seattle Coffee Works
