It is 21+ but last time they weren't carding. Since our group is so big we could certainly ask them, I think they would be cool with it. Feel free to contact me and I can ask the owner of The Science Club.

This is something I'd also like to know about. I'm 16 and would like to attend. I wasn't able to last time since I was not sure about the age requirements. I had forgotten to post this.

That would be awesome. I've been looking forward to attending these ever since I got into a DC school. And unlike a lot of people, I don't have a fake :) I'm fine with being x'ed if they'd be more comfortable about it. It looks like a cool place based on the pictures on their website.

Hi Ron and Diggersf,
I am still waiting to hear back about what we can do with the Science Club. I just wanted to let you know that Ted told me about this and I am trying to get a clear answer. Also I have started to look at other options here and will keep you posted.

possible places
There is Colonel Brook's Tavern right next to the Brookland metro and also served by several convenient busses.
Also close to the Brookland Metro is Cafe Sureia which I am sure would be amicable to a gathering. They don't serve beer but they do have wireless and excellent coffee. http://www.cafesureia.com/
A little further out is Mayorga Coffee Roaster in Silver Spring. They have parking, beer on tap, free wireless and their own roasted, locally renowned coffee and ample space. http://www.mayorgacoffee.com/SSPage.html
It's a little hike from the metro, but you can also take the buses up georgia or walk just a few blocks from 16th st.
If it is busy, the acoustics are bad, but everything else is superb at Rhumbero's in the Tivoli by the columbia heights metro.
I just noticed they have half priced tapas on Mondays, their menu is irreproachable.

Rumberos looks awesome on a personal note! I will totally check that out - it is right by the office.
Seriously thanks for the write up. The other places are a little to far out to make it easy for a lot of folks to come after work. The goals for the place are for it to be in the greater Dupont area since so many the NGOs and business are there and people are down there regardless if they are from MD or VA and end up sticking around late at work and then coming by.
We were doing Busboys and Poets for a little (with lower turn out since it was a little more of a hike) but the issue there was we couldn't facilitate a talk because it was too noisy and you have to pay for a room.
Science Club hooks us up with a screen for our projector, our own room, internet (sometimes :) ) and no minimum at the bar (there needs to be beer) and has a great location for the majority of folks.
I just need to figure out what they can do with the age issue… and that might be the case with any bar.
Let me open this up - does this criteria for selecting a place make sense?
Any other suggestions in the downtown area?
