Oh, I hadn't seen that list of regional channels. I only noticed http://drupal.org/irc and didn't think it was appropriate to list our channel there, but http://drupal.org/irc/channels is great.
I will be following those instructions. The channel is already registered. Ping me on irc if you'd also like op on the channel.

Which do you prefer, longer and more obvious #drupal-montreal, or shorter #drupal-mtl or even #drupal-yul (airport code)? I didn't see other regional groups use airport codes though...
