Fields for profile information -- feedback

Boris Mann's picture

I added some custom profile fields in your account weeks ago now. There are two sections, business and personal. Below is a list of fields.

Business
* Organization (text)
* Organization website (URL)
* Organization profile (textarea)

Personal
* Real Name (text)
* Website (URL)
* Birthdate (date)
* About me (textarea) -- like a bio

So...feedback? More fields? Less fields? What should we add or remove?

Some other ideas:
* A "birthday" block would be a lot of fun.
* one of the "user tagging" modules would be great
* this groups site might be the right spot to also run a consultant/developer directory; profile fields could fit into this

Note: I'm still praying that gmap/location will be installed to handle geographic filtering/user locations. Moshe, what is outstanding for this? Is there something that people can work on?

i like the birthday. there is a module for this. not sure how good or up to date it is.

user tagging might be good. i haven't played with thise modules. care to share a link?

i'm not so inclined right now to handle the consulting directory right now. after we launch, lets look at it.

gmap.module + location.module are now talking to each other which is great. so, someone needs to install those and verify that the look and act as designed. next, someone needs to add some og flavor so that we can have a map of subscribers. thats the real payoff IMO.

yes, people can work on all of these items. statements like "i tested borthday module on 4.7 and it needs x before it is ready for this site" are very welcome. same for location+gmap.

User tagging

Steve McKenzie created a new module, and I yelled at him to go talk to Kieran/webchick about another in-progress one that is part of GJG. I believe Steve will take over all the functionality of the GJG one and make a solid user tags module. See http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/modules/user_tags/ -- don't think there is a project page yet.

Pasting that link and having to stick a hrefs around it reminds me that urlfilter might be an idea here (or a text markup of some kind? wiki! :P)

The gmaps + location thing

The gmaps + location thing would be a super addition to a site like this. I don't believe it's been made to work with OG yet (so that each group has a map showing subscribers locations).

Any news here?

i have repeatedly tried using location and gmaps modules on http://groupsbeta.drupal.org bu tthey add more confusion and bugs than value. If anyone is capable of working on this issue with me (i.e. can file bugs and pester maintainers and ideally make patches), please contact me.
