I know I said that this would be coming sooner than this, but still:
Our first issue sprint will be in two weeks!
Wat?
The recently-renamed Drupal Ladder initiative aims to raise the percentage of Drupal.org users contributing to core by an order of magnitude, from 0.1% to 1%, by the US DrupalCon in 2014. Two types of events are being hosted to reach this goal:
- Learn sprints, where we work through lessons on the core contribution ladder (of which we've had three in recent months), and:
- Issue sprints, where we work on some of the 9,996 open issues in the Drupal core (it might even be up to 10,000 by the time you read this).
Awesome.
I know, right? On the evening of Tuesday June 19, we will be meeting at the offices of one of our gracious hosts, Phase2 Technology, to conduct our very first local issue sprint. You should join us. It'll be fun.
What should I bring?
This is going to be a working sprint, and as such, there are a few pre-requisites:
- Familiarity with Drupal. Most of the issues in the queue need developers (to write code or review someone else's), but there are plenty of documentation issues to be addressed as well, and anyone who knows how to use Drupal can help out with those.
- Bring a laptop. You can code on paper, but it's really hard to submit patches that way.
- Be there on time, or as close as you can be anyway. We can get a lot done in this two-hour window if everyone is plugged in and ready to start soon after 7.
If you didn't attend any of the learn sprints, and aren't already a Drupal developer, I'd urge you to prepare by getting Drupal up and running locally and installing git.
Thanks to some volunteers in those previous learn sprints, we have a list of novice issues that we can start with, and I'm going to make sure that we've got a few more on deck…but really, with nearly 10,000 open issues, I think we'll all be able to find something to work on.
How do I get there?
The Phase2 offices are right by the Braddock Rd metro station in Alexandria, on the blue and yellow lines: 1330 Braddock Pl # 700 Alexandria, VA 22314. There is some street parking nearby, but I won't be much help there because I don't drive.
We have room for about 30 people. Please sign up (either on groups.drupal.org or Meetup) so we know how many to expect. If you have any questions, post a comment here or drop me a note: brock@brockboland.com

Signups
If you plan to attend this event and haven't signed up yet, please do so I know how many issues I should have prepped.
If you've attended one of the Ladder sprints before, and would be willing to be a team lead for this one, let me know in the comments here. Bryan mentioned this at the meetup Monday: team leads are just people who know enough about a core issue to know how to make some progress moving it forward, and will work with a teammate to make some of that forward progress.
Wait
Wat?
Team leads?
I'm looking for a few more people to lead issue teams. These leads just need to know enough about Drupal to know how to move an issue forward—not fix it necessarily, just how to make some progress on it. If you're willing to help out as an issue leader, please drop me a note soon: brock@brockboland.com
I'll be there
I may be a few minutes late, but I'm planning on attending.
