DrupalCamp 2009... maybe 2010
So, as many of you know, we had a plan for an August DrupalCamp at CubeSpace. CubeSpace was an ideal setting, in terms of locality, parking, space, flexibility, catering and more. Sadly, CubeSpace is no more, having recently gone out of business. They will really be missed by the Portland open source community. It also means out plans are totally scuppered.
So now what? I was only peripherally involved in the now defunct planning. The timing was bad for me and Theresa (who designed all the posters, buttons, T-shirts, etc for the last DrupalCamp) because we're too busy planning for an August wedding and a September month-long trip to South Africa. So yes, why on earth am I pushing this if it might take place when I'm unavailable and if I might not be able to help much? Well, because I think our DUG wants and needs to hold another DrupalCamp, for the good of our group, the community and our own individual development. It really is a win all round. Everyone benefits, the volunteers, the sponsors, the attendees, the speakers. The last DrupalCamp was a huge success and the next one could be even better. It's worth it.
There were many parties interested in volunteering and it may still be doable if we all rally round. Short notice makes it a tad unadvisable, but unconferences can be run in very simple ways, if needs be. If we get a good space and some good community involvement then it's very doable. However, this can only happen if we make it happen.
So, who wants to get involved? Can anyone offer us space? Any sponsors to be found in these challenging times? Do we want to do this within the next few months, or later in the year... or later still? Thoughts? Ideas? Lets talk.

Well I suppose it depends on
Well I suppose it depends on what you are looking for as far as space goes. I can think of a pretty large space that is in a pretty cool spot with the possibility to do everything that we need. I'm betting knowing the guy he wouldn't be opposed to it, espescially as I imagine that a drupal get together is relatively low impact.

Drupal Camp
I'd like to participate, and help organize if I'm able to. I don't have any clear solutions in mind at this point, but as Grant mentioned, I think it's worth the effort to make it happen. Considering it's a busy summer, perhaps we should look to October or November... before the holiday season craziness.
Stepping up.
Let's do this thing. I'm mostly recovered from the craziness of OSBridge and can take on fun stuff like this again.
In terms of space:
WebTrends has been very gracious in offering space, they immediately come to mind as people to reach out to.
We also have quite a few good Drupal shops in the community to reach out to as well.
Anyone else? I'm flexible over this next week to get folks together in a space to plan this out.
Okay then, we have some
Okay then, we have some interest and some possibilities for space. If we set a DrupalCamp planning meeting for Wednesday this week, how many of you would join us? Would Wednesday next week, after 4th of July weekend, be better?
Drupal Camp
Hi everyone,
You can always come up to Victoria BC for Drupal Camp Victoria 2009! DC Victoria will be held on September 11 and 12 2009. Please visit www.drupalcamp.northstudio.com for more information and registration. This is also happening during the Great Canadian Beer Festival, and we plan to go as a group on the Friday (11th). Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
CJ

August camp in Southern California
I'm looking forward to the next Portland camp. Last year's was great. Thank you to every one who helps put it together. For anyone wanting to attend an earlier camp, there's September in Victoria as posted above, and also one a little south of Los Angeles August 8th-9th: http://groups.drupal.org/node/23160.
Either Wednesday works for
Either Wednesday works for me.
Can't make next 2 Wednesdays
I would be happy to help, but I have a class in the evening on this Wednesday and next, so the soonest Wed I would be able to attend would be the 15th. I'll plan to miss the meeting you have either this week or the next, and go to the next meeting thereafter.
I'm happy to join this
I'm happy to join this bandwagon but have family in town tomorrow. Next Wed is clear (and also, the UG meeting - we could meet before/after?). At any rate, count me in, I'd like to help.
Okay, to allow for better
Okay, to allow for better planning, let's meet next week Wednesday, July 8th, at 6pm, in the usual place (usual for DrupalCamp discussion meetings), namely Rogue Ales, at NW 14th and Flanders. Sound like a plan? That way we can possibly follow up a week later at the DUG with the broad outlines of a plan, or a discussion about a plan.
Map here.
Grant, That's the same time
Grant,
That's the same time as the DUG.
Hmmm. Of course. 2nd
Hmmm. Of course. 2nd Wednesday. Guess I suck at the counting thing. So maybe we bring it up at the Dug and those who want to can get together afterward?
See you then...
Good to combine DUG and Drupalcamp discussions on the same night. Brilliant planning, Grant!. See you then.
