Drupalcamp or Regional Summit

I am helping to plan a Drupal Event in late October here in Seattle. This event will be a bit different from Drupal camps as we have done them here in Seattle in the past. The focus will be more on folks already in the "Drupal Ecosystem", people who spend much of their time designing, configuring and engineering Drupal. We will not have a focus on the "beginner" track as we have had in the past, rather we will be having a separate event a few weeks earlier to reach out to those checking out the Drupal Ecosystem. The summit will be more like a regional DrupalCon with the goal of serving the people from Portland to Vancouver who are in the Drupal community through some good sessions, BOF's, and networking opportunities. We have secured a great conference space and are excited about what this event will mean to the PNW Drupal community.

Hello Jared,

Given Grant's post here, on the thread you started, about the PDX camp being targeted for the third week in October, your choice of October 24th as the date for your event seems to guarantee an overlap and a conflict.

Also, the content of your original post and this second post is nearly identical. I understand that you want to get the word out about your newly scheduled event, but posting duplicate content into the group, and triggering a second round of notification emails, is an annoyance for those of us who get email notifications for the Portland group. My first thought was that g.d.o was spitting out duplicate messages; my second thought was that I was being spammed; only upon returning to g.d.0 did I realize that it was actually a conscious choice.

Cheers,

Bill

This is an event type. Also, "nothing is finalized yet ... shuffle our dates", where as we already have the venues booked from my understanding. No huge "NO!!! Thats a bad date" where posted so I think thats why RockSoup went ahead with the creation of the event. From my understanding Grant was saying that they would change Portland dates. This is my guess as to why things went down they way they went down (new node being created).

Mike is right...

I tried as best I could to see if there was a conflict for the Summit, but at the time I was looking (one month ago) there were no solid dates. This is true of both Vancouver and Portland. This is also kind of the reason why I thought a regional event would be so great since at that time there were no camps on the books for any of the PNW cities (save for the excellent crew in Victoria).

I looked through g.d.o. pages, visited with people in IRC and talked to the people in the community I know (limited as that may be) and got the same answer back - no one had events in the works. I admit that I may have missed some info, but I tried very hard to avoid conflicts.

Unfortunately this was the information I presented to our (excellent) venue and a date was chosen based on when their schedule and ours matched up. I do not believe we can easily move that date now and given their graciousness I do not want to complicate our arrangement.

As for the spam, I apologize for the repetition. I should have just created an event node the first time, I forgot I could.

I am planning on attending the monthly meetup in PDX in August, hopefully we can discuss things more then.

Thanks,

who knows about overlap

Hey folks - I'm a Washington resident, but closer to Portland in the Gorge. As of the last meeting, the PDX group had no definite venue, and if there is no venue, then there really isn't a date for you to plan around, just a target date. It's great and important to look for conflicts, but I wouldn't lose much sleep over this potential conflict on this side. You can't hold up your planning while Portland struggles with the fact that it's planned venue (for an Aug camp) went bankrupt. As we had to start over, and didn't want it to be anywhere near the date of the Paris DrupalCon (or Victoria), Oct was a natural choice.

Reminder: The wiki

arianek's picture

Hey to everyone who's going down to Seattle this weekend, just a reminder to fill out your info on the wiki: http://groups.drupal.org/node/25794 so that others can find you (if you want to be found, that is!). There's still a few rides available on there as well, so if you're still looking for a ride, snap them up!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

My power supply adapter

Boo Hoo,

I misplaced my Macbook power supply/adapter at day 1 of the summit. Anyone find/see one? May have been Room U3.

Thanks
