User group meeting

Hey everyone,

We'd love to invite all the fine Drupal folks for a Montreal DrupalDrinks social event prior to DrupalCon Paris, on our not-quite-but-almost-rooftop terrasse (if it is nice) or in the salon (which we humbly call the Master Ballroom), Tuesday August 11th starting at 7PM. We'll offer some drinks, but we won't refuse offers for additional booze. The terrasse is heated so if you tend to be chilly don't worry.

You will meet new folks and see previews and demos of SuperCron and SuperSearch. SuperCron (which was released about 5 weeks ago and already has over 200 installs) gives you full control over the cron process: which hooks to call in which order, which to run in parallel/multitasked, etc. it also lets you recover from exceptions arising in hooks (and captures them as well as any output for debugging purposes). Last but not least for the optimization nuts out there, it gives you production-site statistics on execution times for individual hooks.

SuperSearch is a work in progress; it lets you index your site 11 times faster than search.module (3000 nodes/min on one of our clients' sites), caches search results so that repeated queries can be quickly returned to the user, and helps use search queries as SEO material for Google to enjoy. We are hard at work getting that module ready for DrupalCon Paris, but would love to get your feedback to make it even nicer !

Address available on sign-up.

Cheers,

Louis-Eric

It's always fun to meet new Drupal lovers. I've never heard of your super modules. Looking forward to their demonstrations.

J'ai hâte d'aller visiter vos bureaux et votre SuperTerrasse.

Merci.

I got the address by email after I signed up. Does that mean we can't mention the address publicly?

Can't make this one sorry, will be in a cottage in the Laurentians suffering internet withdrawal.

I'm sure McGill will be represented though...

Address

Address: best not to; we all work from home so this is a home office like the other ones; we use it for group and client meetings but it isn't a public address per se.

We have nearly 12 sign-ups so far; this is going to be fun !

Awesome can't wait

Time?

jpmckinney's picture

What time would you like people to start arriving? Nevermind, time is given in event description, but not in the email (7PM).

I will be there

Thank you so much, Louis-Eric, for having us all out to your place! It was great fun, and nice to get to catch up with a few people I either haven't met or haven't seen in awhile, including yourself! :)

Félicitations

Louis-Eric,

I'd also like to extend my gratitude for hosting the event and for the free booze.

I am always happy to see new people/shops get involved in the community side of things.

See you in Paris if not before :-)

Omar

It was great to meet you all

63reasons-gdo's picture

Thank you all for coming, it's always great to meet smart interesting people with common interests !

One of my favourite French restaurants is actually on the Seine, it slowly floats around Ile St-Louis (where you can see Notre-Dame-de-Paris, the Eiffel Tower, the bridges, the original version of the Statue of Liberty, etc.), has stellar food, great wine, and a genuine 1940s ambiance. I'm thinking of reserving a whole section for all of us on the last evening of the event. We need to reserve. Who's in ?

We'll do the next Drupal Drinks in 2 months !

Cheers,

Louis-Eric

Hey Louis-Eric,

Thanks for hosting the event the other night and I appreciated all the drinks and treats - I had a really great time!

It was great meeting everyone and hanging out to talk about Drupal. It's pretty great to see such a strong community of developers here in Montreal!

Cheers

Twist my rubber arm

I may be cheap... but I also like to enjoy life... so count me in.

That being said, IMHO, we'd be better off with a new event post for this. That way you can use the standard sign up functionality and avoid things getting lost/mixed up with all the "thank you"s.

Omar

Floating restaurant sounds cool

lambic's picture

I would be in for the floating restaurant, as long as it's not millions of euros per head!

Thanks much

Thank you very much for hosting, Louis-Eric. You guys have an excellent terrace and building in general. It was really great being able to meet even more Montreal Drupalers and hear what you all have been working on.

Logan

It's comparatively cheap

63reasons-gdo's picture

In a city where a piece of bread and a coffee will run you 9 euros, choucroute and beer on-the-fly will be 20 euros, and a night out at a quality restaurant for two will cost well over 150, Le Calife's dinner options (including the 2-3 hour tour) start at 49 euros (that's the entry-level menu, and being occasionally cheap I can tell you that the food at that price is awesome and plentiful).

I can handle that

lambic's picture

I can handle 49 euros. Sounds like I'll be making the most of the conference catering for the rest of the week though ;)
