Presentations

Drupal 8 will be awesome

Short presentation by Rob Wierzbowski

Rob W. will present an informal 1/2 hour about why "Drupal 8 will be awesome". He's been following some of the core initiatives and will discuss how they will make our lives better, and some that may give us growing pains. Expect brief overviews of Spark and WYSIWYG in core, the Configuration Management Initiative, D8 theming with Twig, Blocks and layout initiative, some responsive ephemera, and Views in core, with links if you'd like to learn more.

Rumors from DrupalCon Munich.

News and rumors from DrupalCon Munich 2012. Informal presentation by Lin Clark.

Please, come ready for the Q&A session: if you have some technical difficulties or you want others drupalers opinions, this is the right time to ask for help and/or propose your solutions.
Again if you would like to propose questions or your issue before hand, please send me an email, I will try to address them at the meetup.

Pizza and some refreshments provided by Max Novelli.

Few key info about the location:

  • Thanks again to Mark Weixel and Luis Bravo of UCIS (University of Pittsburgh), we can use room 4130 in Posvar Hall at University of Pittsburgh.
  • here is Posvar Hall location.
  • The best way to reach Room 4130 is to enter Posvar Hall from the Schenley Plaza side, take the elevators to the 4th floor, turn left after exiting the elevator and then continue down the hall. 4130 is the last room on the right, before the hallway turns.
  • The room has wireless access, but attendees need to register before the meetup. Info about the registration process and registration link can be found here. Click on "access request" to load the form. Please enter "man8", "08/14/12" and "08/15/12" in the "Host Username", "Arrival Date" and "Departure Date" fields.

Many Thanks to

  • Rob Wierzbowski for presenting.
  • Lin Clark for reporting back from Munich.
  • Max Novelli (nitrosx, aka myself) for organizing.
  • Mark Weixel and Luis Bravo of UCIS (University of Pittsburgh) for providing the location

parking

Is there parking near by. I'm not use to parking in Oakland and wondered where is the best place to park.

You should be able to park on

nitrosx's picture

You should be able to park on the streets close by. I do not remember if you need to pay or not.
There is parking all around Schenley Plaza, that is right next o the building where we have the meetup.

If that's not an option, I suggest Soldiers and Sailors Garage. You can find rates here: http://www.pts.pitt.edu/parking/visitor.html

Hope this helps

Presenters

Hello Pittsburgh Drupalers

we are still missing a presenter for the next meet-up.
If you have a nice topic, show case or any other interesting info about Drupal, do not be shy. Step up and present!!!
If you are too shy, just send us suggestions on what would you like to be the next meetup about. I will do all my best to make a professional, informative and complete presentation on the subject.

Thank you all
Max

Idea for presentation

akanik's picture

Hey there, so I've never been to a Pgh meetup before (for shame, I know) but I was wondering if anyone had addressed responsive web design and drupal best practices regarding it? This is a recent infatuation of mine and I've been doing a bit of research on how drupal handles image sizing, using sass for better css development, and % vs. em, but I feel like some input from other drupal users would be majorly helpful.

Here is an awesome webinar that I attended (slideshow and webinar available here!). This is what started my infatuation.

I look forward to seeing y'all there!

Great idea. Unfortunately, I

Great idea.
Unfortunately, I do not think is feasible for the meet-up coming up.
Let me see what it can be done and maybe we can have a presentation for one of the future meet-up.

Thanks again
Max

Pittsburgh Drupalers

Rob is volunteering to present and sharing his knowledge about Drupal 8.
Still his is going to be a short presentation.
Anybody else who want to enlighten us with a cool presentation talking about the latest feature, module or website he/she has come across, worked on or set up?

Any one?

Thanks
Max

Very informal

RobW's picture

I added a description of what I plan on talking about to the event description:

Rob W. (that's me) will present an informal 1/2 hour about why "Drupal 8 will be awesome".

This will be by no means comprehensive -- there's a heavy bias towards what I think is cool, and what I understand enough to chat about (e.g., I read the plugins summary twice and am still not entirely sure what is going on there, so I will save myself some embarrassment and leave that topic for others). I'll probably have one slide and a few issue/group links per initiative, and then open the floor to people who have been following or contributing to D8 themselves (if there are any in the audience).

I'll be there. I can fill in

linclark's picture

I'll be there. I can fill in a little bit with what's been happening with Entity API and the Web Services initiatives. My heavy bias will be towards content serialization (ie JSON-LD) and the content staging workflow, which is work that has been happening in and around the Web Services and Configuration Management initiatives, with a smattering of Multilingual and Blocks and Layouts in the mix.

I have to miss again

Sorry I can't be there tonight. Sounds like a great presentation. Tuesdays is a really bad day for me and I really miss these meetups. Hoping I can make it next month!

Presentation Update

RobW's picture

Presentation update: Going to split time between the slide deck and the blackboard, and I actually have about an hours worth of stuff. Research is like Pringles.

See everyone there.

@Lee, the signups here are

@Lee, the signups here are buggy, it's true. We were talking about switching the policy to only signups on Meetup.com, or maybe a third service. We'll figure it out eventually.
