I've been writing <a href="http://drupal.org/project/uc_signup>Signup integration for Ubercart and plan to work more on The Conference organizing distribution so this sounds like a good idea to me.

Come along to http://groups.drupal.org/eventrelated-drupal-code -- we've been discussing use cases and implementation ideas, and the general consensus seems to be to build on and adapt signup, calendar, simplenews, ubercart and webform. Your input would be appreciated!
