Wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully get some answers to a couple questions.
I'm a drupal newbie, however I am familiar with basic PHP, and customizing scripts. I currently have a phpnuke site @ www.street-hustle.com however I'm finding it limited. And would like to move onto something more flexible and secure. Here's my goals, if you could point me where I need to go that would be great.
I'm looking to create a Genre specific Artist Community, that offers revenue sharing through banner ads.
Primary Features wanted are:
Music Uploads (maybe video as well)
Image Uploads
Friend Adding (like myspace?)
Seperate registration for artists/fans
Custom Profiles
Profile Commenting
Blogs
Forums
Pretty Much, I'd like for an artist to sign up, post music, modify profile if desired, and share revenue based on the traffic they generate. I would like Fans to be able to add themselves to the bands of their choice if they have a profile.
From the forums, here's what I've gathered I need, PLEASE correct me if wrong and let me know a better solution.
First I'm assuming that 4.7 is the most supported or should I go with 5?
From what I've gathered to accomplish what I want, I'll need the following modules:
UserNode
NodeProfile
Node Family
Node Audio Gallery
Node Images
If these are not correct, or I'm reading outdated information, please let me know. If I can get confirmation on what modules to use or if you can suggest a better alternative. Please let me know. Thank you

yeah i'd like some direction
yeah i'd like some direction on this sort of site building as well. i guess the key is to take it in small steps? my first source of confusion is i know how to build Roles, but where do you setup the registration form that they will fill out? and then the form has to have a question on it that asks are you a contributor or subscriber(whatever lingo you want to use), which will then seperate the users. then i'd like to know once they've registered and added their content how do you promote the content they've uploaded to their appropriate pages?
Artist Associated WEB Area

The idea was a main association (in the example called Hermes - http://demo.fagioli.biz/hermes ) with associated running the private area (in the example called Freddy - http://demo.fagioli.biz/hermes/freddy )
At the moment I'm not working on that anymore...

You could do this with either roles (somebody would have to assign them the role) or maybe if you use usernode.module you could assign artists an "Artist" taxonomy to that node...but currently there is no easy way to categorize users like this on signup.

Just my initial thoughts...you'd also need a custom module for tracking the banner clickthroughs I imagine.
