User group meeting
Join us on Thursday, February 28th, 2013 at Ryan's Village Pizza in Cocoa Village for our second meetup of the month.
The topics have not yet been decided, but there have been several suggestions posted in other threads. Let's consolidate all potential topics in this thread and discuss here so that nothing falls through the cracks. Potential topics include:
- Information architecture of Drupal sites
- Launching a site (domain names, production hosting, updates, etc...)
- Florida DrupalCamp Coding for a Cause
- Introduction to the Features module
- Theming with SASS
- More "Back to the Basics" stuff
I'd love to take a few minutes at the next meetup to plan out the topics for the next few meetups. This is a great opportunity for people to start thinking about presenting at Florida DrupalCamp in April, and practicing a presentation at a local meetup is a great way to prepare...
Thanks,
-mike

Launching a site (domain names, production hosting, updates, etc
I would like for someone to do a presentation that would fill in some gaps in my knowledge on the brass tacks of selling a site and handing over the 'keys'.
It should include:
How to get a domain name (i.e. from the incomprehensible www.we2549 gibberish to something memorable, like 'www.turnips.com').
What kind of arrangements are made when putting your local dev site (from laptop) out onto the server the customer will pay for from now on.
A general list of tasks for the whole process of making a custom site for somebody else.
How future maintenance issues will be handled (i.e. which ones remain my responsibility and which ones the new owner has to resolve or find help for).
Ball-park cost estimates for small, medium and more complex sites.
Any of the advanced Drupal developers who have gone through the whole process could potentially present this and help me get a holistic understanding.

Sorry I missed the last
Sorry I missed the last meeting! For some reason I thought it was on a different day. I would like to give a very short demonstration on irc, if possible.
Feb 28 meeting
Chris Patrick mentioned he has a conflict on the 28th and he was one of the main people interested in IA. Can we defer that discussion til the next meeting? We had talked about having a panel discussion from several perspectives.
I'd like to see practical uses of IRC so that's a great idea. And Features. Seems like we have plenty to talk about on the 28th.

I'd be happy to do my features walkthrough.
anyone interested in feeds?
I could do a presentation on importing users or other large amounts of data into a site. Had to do this for a site with 3,000 users, and it taught me a couple of things. If not this meeting, be happy to do it for another.
BTW: Features is a great module. Everyone needs to know about it.

Cielo's IRC
Can we fit in importing data too!
Drupal shrinkwrap & multi-site solutions?
Three great topics. Should be a value-packed meeting.
If anyone is keeping a list of topics for future, in addition to the IA and Taxonomy topic, here's another suggestion. Shrinkwraps is probably not the right word but I think you know what I mean. (this would be for someone more knowledgeable than me - I have questions but few answers). Although I could research it if no one already has enough answers to take it on.
Compare and contrast
I'm interested in Buzzr because there is a Higher Ed package layered on top of it. I'm really interested in anyone that has layered a vertical solution on top of these vs. basic Drupal.

agenda
Mike, Ben,
so what is the final agenda? Just want to know if I should be prepared to do Feeds, or put it off for a future meeting.
thanks

Two topics
I think we should limit it to just 2 topics per meetup, considering that "networking" time is valuable and the last thing we want to do is rush presentations.
That being said, how about we go with Features and IRC this week, and plan on Feeds, IA, and site launches for a later date.
Sound like a plan?
