First step with a Drupal-built newspaper site

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi everybody,

My name is Jo - an exclusive Joomla web developper - but I had to reconsider this state since I plan to run a newspaper website and also after a quick visit within the drupal community. Here are the main points of my project:
- an online newspaper regrouping many authors and editors living in different countries
- manage their work by using a groupware and collaboration solution
- manage premium users with payment subscriptions and a possibility of getting dats to perform a marketting surveys
- manage classified ads
I come to the fact that doing it with Joomla would be so tricky and in the other hand, drupal community looks so supportive and warmfull [it's my opinion ;-)!!].
I'm looking for some people that have dealt with same kind of projects to give their views. Is Drupal right for this in terms of modules availability for i.e?

Regards

We're doing some of the things you describe.

an online newspaper regrouping many authors and editors living in different countries

Drupal is definitely a good chioce for that.

manage their work by using a groupware and collaboration solution

I'm not sure, what you mean by this. Do you want to intergrate some other app, or do you wanna use drupal. The organic groups-modules could be a good place to look.

manage premium users with payment subscriptions and a possibility of getting dats to perform a marketting surveys

There is a premium module. But unfortunately it's not upgraded for 5.0 yet. We're loooking for a solution for that problem as well.

manage classified ads

Take a look at the ed_classified module

All in all. I would say that Drupal would be a good choice!

On groupware and collaboration solution, i mean a drupal module (i don't really have a depth view of its possibility yet!!) which give me the possibility to centralize and manage all authors and editors work. See how contents are developping (from status to status). A Kind of teamwork management if you see what i mean.
A first look at Drupal's content management gives me lot of optimism about what can be done but is there a more advanced module? i exlpain, for i.e if I want to manage authors or contents by countries, to have a history of all activities.
My main issue is to avoid too much tricky codings and developments but that's what project are made of ;-), ain't it? So i'm still open to other views and tips to make up my choice.

Jo.

Look at my publishing module (http://drupal.org/project/publishing) which helps to create a basic publishing workflow and provides some tools to manage it.
