It's really nice to see some of the old friends around here (alaa , sameer...etc.). I hope you are doing well these days.
Regarding the translations , are there some conventions or rules to follow.
I noticed some words like 'node' were translated in drupal 4.7 to 'عقدة' and to be honest , this translated word doesn't really express the meaning of node. Probably 'مادة' or 'محتوى' would have been better even though that isn't the exact word-by-word translation, It would be great if we can layout some agreement on some common terms between the modules to avoid having different translations for the same word.

yes which is why we need this glossary. that gharbeia promised us.
Gharbeia when do you expect to publish your glossary, or shall we start going through the translation and deduce the glossary from it?
as for node and عقدة note that node is different from content (conceptually in drupal not just in english), the words node, content and posts are all used in drupal and we need to have a different translation for each or else we confuse users.
so if you'll suggest changes to the translation of node you have to indicate how you intend to translate content and posts.
also note that node is an abstract drupal concept, english speaking users are not familiar with the word node (specially in it's drupal sense), so they have to learn it's meaning too it's not intuitive. the lack of intuitive wording then is not a function of the translation but a complexity introduced by drupal's abstraction and modularity.

I am adding to it on the job now, and expect to give more attention to it once I put up a functional translation at least: next week.
I agree with Alaa on node. What I would love to find, however, is an Arabic word for "post", a single "content" item.

Just my two cent :
مادة feels right for content
مبعث , مبعثات for post, posts ( 3ala wazn mouf3al)
عقدة for node. Though we don't thing of Drupal nodes as "real nodes" CMS people that named these entities nodes (not just for drupal) named it after the concept of a node in the information "web" or "tree". Objects that are linked to each other.
Also, i'd suggest not to be afraid of "creating words" as long as these follow the rules and concepts of arabic !
