An Unusual Use Case for Drupal

In my current position, I was asked to automate the data importing into the main database. This is a critical step to be able to analyze all the lab data and get publishable results. One of the missing component was a reliable tool to collect all the additional informations (called metadata) that are needed in order to make the import process feasible, reliable and, more so, successful.

That's how the "METADATA DATABASE" project was born. Since the inception of this project, I though that a web-based interface was the best solution given that we work across different OSes and browsers and we also use a multitude of other tools that, in the near future, we would like to connect with/to this central repository. My familiarity with Drupal and the number of module already available guided us to choose Drupal as the CMS of choice to build our tool on top of it. In my presentation, I will illustrate the requirements that we are facing, how I implemented them, which modules we are using and which functions we decided to implement in our own module.
