We're excited to announce the next Drupal Commerce Meetup, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, between 6-8pm. This is a new meetup and we meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at a variety of venues.
We're meeting this time at Droplabs, a Drupal-friendly classroom, coworking space and makerspace near Downtown Los Angeles. Those interested in attending this meetup remotely are welcome to join us via WebEx.
At this Drupal Commerce meetup, we'll be featuring the Commerce Module Tuesday videos and the various modules covered by the series. We'll also discuss recent news and events, including the release of Commerce Kickstart 7.x-2.7 and Commerce-related presentations at DrupalCon Portland 2013.
Do you have a request or an offer for additional presentations? Let us know by posting in the comments below. Thanks!
Agenda ^
Our meetups follow a basic format and start off with Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, raffle prizes and full-length presentations. As always, we'll also have community Q&A, during which time anyone in attendance can ask questions, divine answers from the crowd and give brief, 5-10 minute-long presentations known as lightning talks. We'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark at 8:00pm.

Drupal After Dark ^
After the event is over, a group of us may go to a nearby restaurant or pub. In the past we've had beers and a bonfire and were serenaded by Skrillex, who was rehearsing next door for the Mothership tour.
We've also gone to a variety of other locations, including Barbara's at The Brewery (at 620 Moulton Ave., just a 5 minute walk away) and Carnitas Michoacan (on 1901 N. Broadway, just a 5 minute drive away).

About the Drupal Commerce Meetup ^
What is the Drupal Commerce Meetup about? We have presentations, case studies and roundtable discussions on all the things that make our Drupal-based ecommerce websites work, from payment handling, inventory management and shipping to adding social features that make our websites and applications fun to use. We cover all the systems that work with Drupal and have a primary focus on the open source Commerce framework.

GLAD
Hello, and thanks for allowing me to join GLAD. The collaboration space described in the above meetup post sounds fantastic and I hope to be able to attend a future gathering. I will continue to learn about the group's mission via web and set a goal of making it to a GLAD event this summer. Take care.
Thanks, Gabriel! I'm looking
Thanks, Gabriel! I'm looking forward to seeing you at one of our meetups.
I think one of the big points we'll be discussing at this particular meetup on Tuesday is how to choose between Commerce Kickstart 1, Commerce Kickstart 2 and the stand-alone Drupal Commerce suite. These are all under active development and serve different business use cases.
Maybe there, maybe webex
It's nice to get out of Santa Monica once in a while, but lately it has been a lot more than usual. So . . . I'll try to make it downtown, but if I can't, I'll try webex participation.
Thanks, Peter! This meetup is
Thanks, Peter! This meetup is one of our "traveling meetups" and we can easily bring it to Santa Monica. Do you have any ideas for a venue?
venues
Hmmm . . . as you are probably aware . . . there are a bunch of Cowork spaces in Santa Monica . . . including CoLoft and CrossCampus that are within walking distance of where I live. But I haven't tried arranging events with them, although I have gone to meetups at both (PHP at Coloft, WordPress at CrossCampus). I remember that Drupal had a few meetings at the Santa Monica Library (although I missed those) at one point, and think that is probably free. I don't know whether CoLoft or CrossCampus charge. I don't think so. They probably consider certain events to be a draw of potential members, but they may pick and choose what they sponsor.
I am definitely going to try webex for this Commerce meetup. But I am at the library and won't be able to speak up. So you will probably just experience me as a lurker. Had a bunch of stuff to get done today and won't be able to get downtown by 6:00.
Re: Venues
CoLoft hosts some events for free if they are big enough, otherwise they charge $80 for a two hour evening event. I checked about a year ago.
Where is CrossCampus?
The meetings that were being held at the Santa Monica Library are Currently being held at Stauffer in Playa Vista.

CrossCampus
CrossCampus is the corner of Broadway and 9th in Santa Monica (Coloft is between 9th and 10th on Santa Monica Blvd. -- about a block and a half away, to give you a sense). I suspect that CrossCampus might also want a large meeting, but I don't know for sure.
I live close enough to the Santa Monica library, by the way (in fact, I am there now), and it would be easy for me to arrange THAT as a free venue (as long as there isn't too much demand).
The Commerce meetup has started . . .
Juicy meetup. Super glad I
