Rentals / Booking Engine

I have a client that manages their community and ecommerce functions through Drupal, and would like to extend to managing their equipment rentals business also. I would prefer to keep it as one system for all the obvious reasons, single user accounts, sitewide search, upgrade paths... etc.

To manage rentals, a booking engine (similar to airline sites) with a product/availability component and scheduler would be needed.

Ecommerce already tackles products, availability and the checkout pipeline.

Each product that is "rentable" would need to be able to be scheduled and then no longer available during that timeframe. Would be the inclusion of a calendaring/dates component as a first step that then filters availability of products. Most of the same checkout requirements, although sometimes they take deposits on more expensive items.

Seems like a common-enough scenario, wondering if anyone has worked on this already or some joint development might be possible.

Thanks
-Greg

I've just started a RV

tres@drupal.org - Thu, 2007-04-26 03:33

I've just started a RV rental/booking website and would be happy to collaberate on a generic booking module.

I'm about to start on an RV site

And would be interested in collaborating, although I probably can't contribute much in the way of code. Could contribute some of the site's budget to help though...

Cheers,

Ben

looks pretty wonky. the whole strings and comments in german thing would be a burden. and it doesn't have hooks for ecommerce...

I'm looking at taking on a project that would need this type of functionality. I'd be interested in collaborating on such a project.

I would be interested in

I would be interested in collaborating with this. Although I'm not looking at an ecommerce -enabled facility.

I was thinking along the lines of an abstract booking system, that can then be extended to cater for rooms, tickets, media, etc.
This could then be extended to allow for ecommerce facilities if needed, rather than 'forcing' them to be used.
(I'm currently in need of a room booking system to replace an older system - and in the planning stages)

I'm really interested in it!

Hi, I'm really interested on that module!
I'll also have 3 free weeks when I can help in development of it!

Let me know!

The patch file held in the opensource folder need to be applied to the ecommerce directory. Please ensure that you use the current version of ecommerce (5.3.3).

I will be setting up a drupal project in the next week or so.
