Hot on the heels of our awesome first meetup last Thursday, the next Montana Drupal meetup is Tuesday, March 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Small Meeting Room at the Missoula Public Library. The Small Meeting Room is on the lower level of the library, accessed via the parking lot.
We are doing these twice each month, and we're considering doing one week a month as a Drupal beginner presenation, and the other week intermediate/advanced presentations. We especially want to make sure the schedule works for most of the beginners in our group, so please give your feedback on that here.
We originally said 7pm, but the Library kicks us out at 8:45pm so I'm moving start time to 6:30pm to make sure we have adequate time. (We can discuss alternate venues in the future, I just chose the library because it's free, central, and has a projector.)
Based on feedback – or who shows up – this will either be the first of our 'Beginning Drupal' presentations, or something else! We'll also have time for informal Drupal chat, networking, etc.
Please use the 'sign up' button below to indicate your RSVP.
We are welcome to bring snacks and drinks as long as we leave the room clean when we leave. I imagine some folks might want to continue the discussion at a local eatery/drinkery afterwards.
Hope to see you there!

10 Day Trial of Safari Books Online
I couldn't make it tonight. Bummer. But I wanted to let anyone interested know about a free trial resource for getting started on the book, "Using Drupal". http://safaribooksonline.com has a free 10 day trial of their online book service available. If you ordered this book as Andy might have suggested tonight, you might check the site out for a few days while you wait for your copy. You can read up to 100 pages free.
Thanks Nathan!
Sorry you couldn't make it but we'd love to have you at future Drupal get-togethers. And thanks for the tip about Safari, I hear it's a great resource.
Awesome event!
Hey, the event was amazing. So many web developers in one room. Andy - you asked me to rate the event - but I had trouble finding the event. It doesn't seem to be connected to the group - so I had to look through all Drupal events that happened in the world yesterday. Is there an easy way to look at events for this group only? And I don't see a "rate me" link anywhere. But I'll say it here - fantastic. I'm more excited about what's possible with Drupal, and eager to find out if it's possible for mere mortals.
Good questions
Harold, these are all good questions, let's see if I can untangle some of this.
Some confusion stems from the fact that we're promoting Western Montana Drupal's events in two places: on this site (http://groups.drupal.org/western-montana) and on the Montana Programmers Meetup group (http://www.meetup.com/Montana-Programmers). These are completely separate sites, with separate event systems, separate calendars, separate RSVPs etc. I dislike the duplication, but really like that many folks have found out about this through the Meetup.com group, so it's really good for promotion. Other local Drupal user group organizers have found the same thing.
So for the time being at least, our Drupal meetups will be listed/promoted in both places. I would encourage everyone to sign up for this group (http://groups.drupal.org/western-montana), RSVP for meetings on this site, and conduct discussions about our group on this site, all in preference to meetup.com, because this site is a Drupal site, and plugs you more into the worldwide Drupal community, and we'll get more notice from the Drupal community at large with more activity here.
This site doesn't support ratings – post-even ratings and comments are supported at the meetup.com group, as you can see here, which is a nice means of promotion but not necessary if you want to confine your time/RSVPs to just this site.
As for the finding the events, I agree there should be a more prominent group-specific event calendar that looks like this, and I'm in touch with the administrators of this site to explore that. When there are upcoming events posted in the group you should see a "Group events" block on the right-hand sidebar, along with an ical feed subscription. This seems to disappear when there are no upcoming events, so I'll make sure to always keep a future event in the queue so that block stays there.
Thanks for your involvement and enthusiasm, I want to get (and keep) you sold on Drupal as you are a thought leader and will do wonderful things with it!
Thanks for your kind words.
Thanks for your kind words. I've been sold on Drupal a long time but haven't quite gotten to swapping out of Joomla and WordPress. I'm really looking forward to getting more savvy with this.
Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to rate the meeting at the meetup.com site because I RSVP'ed here and it wouldn't let me RSVP after the fact. :-(
Might be cool if the groups.drupal.org maintainers would add a some of the cool features from Meetup.com like meeting ratings.
