Start:
2007-10-09 18:30 - 20:30 US/Eastern

The Boston users group is meeting for the nth time. Here is our topic:

Lightning Talks

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to present for 5 minutes on a topic of their choosing. You may show off your Drupal site, ask some questions of the audience, give a module demonstration, share some marketing ideas for Drupal, and so on. Just keep it brief. No expertise required - just do it.

We will be hosted by the Berkman Center at Harvard University. Follow that link for directions. We are meeting upstairs in the Berkman Conference Room

After the meetup, some of us will likely continue the conversation over dinner at a local restaurant.

In an unprecented fit of productivity, I've booked the same conference room for our November and December meetings. Save these dates:

  • november 6th @ 6:30 pm
  • december 11 @ 6:30 pm

Boost module

Want to make your Drupal-powered site 50 times faster with 15 minutes of work? I'll show you how by introducing the Boost module, my favorite new toy.

It's one of my favorites, too

It's one of my favorites, too. It would be great to have this on the agenda (especially with the boost-5.x-1.0 release).

I've been working under NDA with a group of other talented Drupal developers for LifeWire, a subsidiary of The New York Times Company. They have given the ok to give a sneak peak of how Drupal has been adapted to become a mission-critical B2B platform to create original and syndicate existing lifestyle content for top Web publishers, including CNN and About.com.

reminder - tonight at 6:30pm

hi all. we're one for tonight at 6:30pm at berkman. there is still time to pick a topic for your lightning talk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_Talk)

Related Content module

I'm planning to talk about the Related Content module. It seems to work fine and it can be useful, but it might be improved with some enhanced features. I'll describe the module, what it does (briefly) and how I want to change it. I'd also like feedback on my ideas since I haven't designed or developed modules before. Not sure if people use slides for lightening talks - I'll bring a few slides but I guess I can just wing it too if need be.

FileMaker PHP API

We've been checking out the FileMaker PHP API that works with FileMaker 9 Server, and I thought I might demo a proof of concept module I wrote that allows Drupal to display/manipulate records in a FileMaker database.

good screenscraper

A good screenscraper I've used that could potentially be used for importing content is BeautifulSoup. It's python and intended for feed generating, but could be useful.

Great meetup!

Great meetup!

Lifewire, Boost, and all the presentations were great, and I can't wait to start doing all Agaric's site management with http://drupal.org/project/drush !

One thing I would have demo'd if time is this fundraising auction module, an enhancement of e-commerce's core auction module, with some re-invite and other features in development to help deal with it being run once a year, such as offering to send a password when someone tries to register with an existing e-mail address.

Really looking for other interested organizations to make the module worth the while! (Not that I don't love my arts center...)
