Event type:
User group meeting

NOTE: Summaries of the day's event are available.

The Drupal in Government Showcase is an opportunity to highlight the use of the popular free software Content Management System, Drupal, within governments in Canada. The use of this software offers considerable advantages for increased collaboration, improved accessibility & better usability. Speakers from within the public sector will be talking about how this tool helped them accomplish their mission.

It will be held in the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library in the downstairs Auditorium from 2-4pm on Tuesday June 15th. There is wireless on site, but you will need your library card number & pin to use it.

Please let us know if you are able to come by registering with our Eventbrite page or if you have a Drupal account, you can sign up on this page.

Last year we also organize a showcase and were surprised by the enthusiasm for the event. With more preparation time & a larger growth in Drupal, I think we can easily surpass that.

At the last Drupal Conference in San Francisco, there was considerable focus on government use of Drupal. The last Keynotes were by the Whitehouse.gov & NYSenate.gov teams were quite good and it was encouraging to hear that they are contributing their code to the community.

There are a growing number of Drupal sites in the Government of Canada. This is only a partial list as knowing the complete list of sites isn't possible.

Proposed Agenda

2pm - Brief Introductions
2:10 - Overview of Why Drupal - Lee Hunter
2:30 - Implementing a User-Centred Approach in Drupal with the Ottawa Public Library - Devin Crawley & Michael Keara
2:50 - Prototyping a CLF-compliant Intranet in Drupal at Agriculture Canada - Patrick Lajeunesse
3:10 - DND use Drupal for Social Networking Intranet (Facebook style, blogging & video) - Jayson Peltzer
3:40 - CIPPIC Findings on GoC contributions to GPL Projects - David Fewer & Kent Mewhort
3:50 - Drupal 7's Accessibility Initiative, CLF & AODA - Mike Gifford
4:00 - Informal Questions/Discussion

There will be an opportunity to talk over drinks at a local pub after the presentations.

Please download & distribute the PDF poster for this event.

This event is free of charge and is presently been sponsored by OpenConcept Consulting Inc.

Looks like a great idea

Mike, this looks like a great event. I have to be somewhere else that week or I would come. Good luck.

Jeff

Thanks!

Would have been great if you were able to come up for the event. We're hoping to bring up a few folks from the USA to a larger event that we're hoping to put together in the fall. Our two capitals really aren't that far apart and there's a lot that we could learn from each other in adopting technologies like this.

Teleconferencing Info?

I would love to attend this. Are they providing teleconferencing info or live meeting or something equivalent?

There should be a recording of the event

I'm not sure at this point if we will be able to provide a video conference for the event. I guess it depends on how much interest is generated in it between now and then.

We have plans to video the sessions and make them available.

Would be really interested in

Would be really interested in how this goes, would be interested in setting up a similar event in Dublin

Thanks for a great event!

This was a great event, and I'm really grateful for the chance to meet folks in Ottawa's thriving Drupal community.
A huge thanks to all the organizers for putting this on.
If national security permits it, it would be awesome to have slides (in addition to the videos) of the talks.

The Event was a Success

Thanks for coming in for the event Alex. It was great to have folks from Montreal come in and I will do a better job to promote Ottawa events to the Montreal community in the future.

We'll be posting what videos we can shortly. In the mean time we've got some photos up on Flickr that I took during the event. Please feel free to add comments & notes.

Was great you were able to hang out with us after the event & talk over beer too.

NOTE: Summaries of the day's event are available from the OC blog.

I'm looking to get a copy of the presentation by CIPPIC. Do you if it was posted anywhere after the event?

Thanks!

That would be great

mgifford's picture

It would be quite amazing to have some time to talk internationally about government collaboration on a platform like Drupal.

We had a number of public sector employees speak at our venue, and it would be great if they had the capacity to jump over and join you in April.

Are you looking just for participants, or also for speakers? Is it just a one day event or will it be tied to similar events?

It would be good to know more. If here is space for broader collaboration then I hope we'd be able to organize to have at least one person come from Ottawa.

We try to have people from everywhere! So it would be great if we have more public sector speakers from different countries!
