Austin Drupal Group November Meetup
Hi,
Drupal Groups member "studley" and I are hosting the next Austin Drupal Groups Meetup on Nov. 28, 7pm, at the Austin Optaros Office (8th and Congress, above the Chipotle.)
We plan to discuss custom theming, custom module development, and facilitate general Drupal discussion. This should be a great opportunity for the Austin Drupal community to meet up and discuss Drupal issues, and share knowledge that will benefit everyone. If you have ideas for topics you would like to discuss, or any specific questions about the event, feel free to ask in the comments or email me.
Thanks,
Sam
By the way, please let me know if you plan on attending. I'd like to have a rough count of how many people are showing up.

I hope to attend...
Busy week, but will work to be there!
Excellent! Thanks for setting this up!
I plan on attending.
Any access requirements needed to get up to your office? Is there a clear entrance sign, e.g. "Optaros"? Do we park on the street and walk up to the, I presume, 2nd floor? In the case where access is needed, what's the best phone number in case folks arrive late and need to get in?

Logistics
Our office is located at the corner of 8th and Congress, on the second floor (right above the Chipotle franchise). There is a big Chipotle sign outside our office and a set of double doors on the northeast corner of the intersection. Jonathon or I will be at the doors to greet people, maybe we'll have a sign or a costume as well.

I would encourage attendees to take a bicycle if possible, but if you are going to be driving there might be open (metered) parking spaces at that time of night. There are also several parking garages in the area; I'll ask Jonathon to post some more information on parking.
If you arrive late, you can call my mobile telephone at 2814673082 and I'll be down in a jiffy to let you in to the building.
This meetup should be great. I'm looking forward to meeting you all in person!

Link to the module reference
Sam, Could you post a link to the module building tutorial that you were using as a reference for the demo at the meetup? I would like to go through it and practice some.

Parking for the Meetup
Parking downtown is sometimes a big challenge, however I think at that time of the night that there will be a good amount of open metered parking spaces. I think after 5:30 you don't have to feed the parking meter anymore. If you do have to park in a garage, I'd recommend St. Davids (on 8th). It's only a couple of blocks from the office (but I don't know what time they close the garage or if they do). If it were me, I'd find a metered spot on the street.
Looking forward to it.
Thanks for sponsoring it. I posted it on the event calendar on http://door64.com so other local folks can find out about it too.
See you then!
Matt
I plan on attending, but I
I plan on attending, but I won't be able to make it until 7:15 or 7:30, so you can expect a call from me if I can't get in the building. My apologies. I can't get away any earlier. I'm really looking forward to it though.

On the subject of
On the subject of screencasts, I wrote a post for my blog recently on 45 Screencasts to Get You Kicking Ass with Drupal. The inspiration came from a post Dries, Drupal's founder, wrote earlier this year about the "Drupal Learning Curve." I organized links to screencasts from a wide variety of sources to correspond to the various steps along Dries' learning curve.
If you dig around, you can find screencasts or video tutorials on just about every major aspect of Drupal.
These videos rock!
Sorry I couldn't make it tonight. It was my night with the kids. It sounds like the meeting went well and that this was an awesome topic.
I love this compilation. Where were these 2 years ago? ;-)

Thanks again
You guys did a great job. I learned quite a bit. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Meetup went well
Thanks to everybody that was able to make it out to the meetup on Wednesday. There was some really constructive discussion and it seemed like everybody got something useful out of the meetup. There were a bunch of good topics that were brought up, but we didn't have time to discuss them all. I hope some of those could be incorporated into a future event.
In case anyone is interested, the documentation for the simple module I wrote can be found at http://drupal.org/node/17914.
I'll be creating a new topic soon to discuss a possible January event.
Thanks again,
Sam
Coolness
Thanks for posting that link. Your demo was really inspiring. Module development seems a lot less intimidating after seeing you do it.
