Advanced Poll Module vs. Poll Module

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Recently, there was a Poll put up in our local group to select which day of the week to have the local meet-ups. Since the Poll Module will only allow for a single radio button answer ... this brings up the question ... why doesn't Groups.Drupal.org us the Advanced Poll Module?

In my specific example, the use of Approval Voting would have been more practical for our vote than just pick one.

Is there some reason Adv Poll Module is not used? ... or is it as simple as no one has asked?

BTW, count this as me asking for the Advanced Poll Module!

Thanks.

A few issues

True - noone has asked.

In order to run a module here, it has to be very well maintained, well coded, and well loved by the community. I have never used adv poll, but i hear some good things. Can anyone comment on how well maintained it is?

The next issue is that this site wants to be on Drupal6 as soon as possible. I probably won't add modules until after thats done. So if you want this module on groups.drupal.org, make sure a Drupal6 port is done or on the way.

Sounds good

I'm the co-maintainer for Advanced Poll and we should have a D6 port ready within a few weeks of the release.

And if g.d.o. uses the module I will be sure to prioritize any requests or bugs from this site.

I'd be interested to hear what others think of its quality though; any code reviews would be welcome.

And I encourage everyone to post updates to...

...this page: Contributed modules status - version 6.x.

Basically, it's an informal list of plans for contributed modules being ported to 6.x.

If contrib module maintainers are hoping for their mods to be used here on g.d.o, it might help if current info is posted there. At the very least, people like me do review the list occasionally to look things over and I'm sure that will only increase just before D6 is released and certainly immediately afterwards. And anyone can post to that link, not just contrib mod maintainers. :)

Thanks!

Yep

Yep, I'm aware of that page and posted our plan there some months ago. I also colorized that table.

Yes, you did an excellent job!

And I hope you didn't think my comment was directed at you specifically. Rather, it was a generalized comment for anyone reading the post who doesn't yet know about the link I posted. I edited it slightly just now to make it more generic. :)

Keep up the good work! I hope to use your adv poll mod on my site in the near future.

Wow!

It's been a while since I've looked at that page. You've done a much better job of it than I did with 5.x. Thanks so much for taking it and running with it!

Ah, yes, but YOU were the inspiration!

Keep inspiring us with your excellent work!

Also, lots of folks like ChrisKennedy have contributed significantly with the coloring, editing, updating, etc. Having your idea live as a wiki page really is the best solution for the contrib modules since anyone can update the listing.

OK, sorry for the off-topic comments. Back to the advanced poll discussion. :)
