Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This last couple months I have been putting together a new blog around church technology and, of course, drupal at http://www.innovatingtomorrow.net.

The goal is to talk about technology and the church with ideas, reviews, how tos, and how it all relates to the church.

What I'm curious about is what people think about the look and what I should blog about. I'm looking to help people. Anything in particular sitting out there I can blog about that will help you out?

Excellent design

Just wanted to let you know that your site design is very clean. What Drupal theme did you start with?

http://geeksandgod.com also looks great. Listening to your podcast for the first time, good stuff.

As far as what things to blog about, I think your doing great so far. Here are the posts I found myself clicking on:

  • 3 Unconventional Brainstorming Ideas - loved the spiritual focus of this one
  • Media Temple Grid Server Problems - this was especially interesting to me because I have switched hosting providers for my church website, Hope Bible Church, twice. I have gone from Speakeasy to Site5, and am now looking another. I also have a systems developer friend at (a brother in Christ) at Media Temple.
  • Setting Up The Audio Module - good overview of the audio module. This is an area I need to re-investigate for my site, as this module wasn't available when I started our church podcast. I built similar functionality using the deprecated flexinode module and haven't yet moved to cck. Massive upgrades from older versions of stuff are never fun in a developing community.
  • Installing Drupal 5 for a Podcast - good starting recipe of contrib modules for a podcast site.
  • Building a Podcast Site with Drupal - nice IA starter, and completely agree with promoting podcasts to the front of a church site.

So all this to say you have done a fine job of choosing topics already, and your site design promotes readability. I like the use of space, and even the size of the images in the posts.

Matt...

You're off to a great start. Looks good.

My only suggestion... continuously address the digital divide, and how CHRISTIANS CONNECTING LOCALLY can greatly impact that issue in their city if they'll be intentional about doing so. Otherwise, we're simply continuing to perpetuate the injustice between the haves & havenots.... albeit at the speed of light. It's a great new day we live in now, and technology (including social-networking) can help revolutionize the way we've been doing 'Church'.

Neil

Helping Pastors make the move online

DarrinRich's picture

Hey Matt,

I think a good article to write about is one for Pastors who want to make the move to have their ministry out there for the internet world but either don't understand why they should do so or realize how much of a potential outreach it could be. Something that would explain everything from the basics of having a ministry presence online to social networking to podcasts. To have something like this in one article to sum it all up would be great resource to send a link for us to send to pastors or those who are involved in ministries that just don't understand what its all about.
I know there are similar blogs that touch on this, but are primarily aimed at the techie people out there. To have one that is aimed at total non tech savy Pastors or other leaders that may knock down some of the technology side of ministries possibly only because they don't understand it and don't see the big picture of it.

Just a thought Matt. See back over on G&G :)
