Cool, I'm in! Good job, Jonathan, on organizing a venue with a projector :) What's on the 3rd floor on Mill street, anyway? I'll think through some ideas for what I can present on and will send them to you.

I've been doing a lot of

I've been doing a lot of research into the following areas recently, and could present on them. They fall into the "advanced" and "so advanced it'll hurt my head" categories:

  1. Single Sign On (SSO) options for multiple drupal websites.
  2. Hacking drupal: why Drupal 6's password storage scheme may as well be cleartext, and why that's changed for Drupal 7.

SSO assumes that people are deploying multiple drupal websites and want a single username/password login into all of them. I'll talk about how SSO was achieved with groups.drupal.org and drupal.org and also look at the various options available: the bakery module, sharing the user table, multisite installations, LDAP, CAS/Shibboleth, OpenID, OAuth, account_sync...and see if anyone has other suggestions.

Password storage in Drupal 6 is, well, so 1975. I'll explain why...and take a look at the better implementation in D7.

I'd like to hear something about install profiles, if anyone is up for that?

Very Keen

YES! I would be very keen to hear about all of this.

I'd be happy to even go over time for both Roger and Bryan's proposed contributions (if necessary).

Fabtabulous

SSO & LDAP

I for one would love to hear about others' experiences with SSO & LDAP integration. +1 for Roger's suggestion.

@dubois: cool - have you done

@dubois: cool - have you done much LDAP integration before?

Hey, everyone coming to our meetups should read How to get your drupal questions answered - it'll help us grow in quality ;)

@Roger Saner: a tiny bit

@Roger Saner: a tiny bit using existing contrib modules (LDAP Integration). Looking to use it again, with some improvements, for a new project so interested to see what others are doing.

Ok - I'm using LDAP

Ok - I'm using LDAP provisioning, although moving to a more complex LDAP/drupal implementation using CAS - still working that one out, but will present on what I've found.

Drush

bukem - Thu, 2010-06-24 12:53

I would really like to see a talk on drush. Not having much like with it at all and from what I have heard and seen it seems as if its a super time saver.

@bukem drush will change your

@bukem drush will change your life! If you have a laptop bring it along and we'll get you up and running. To download a module from drupal.org all you need to do is type:

drush dl views

And drush downloads the latest views module for you :)

You can also download more at once:

drush dl views cck imagecache imagefield filefield

and then enable them from the command line:

drush en views cck imagecache imagefield filefield

drush me up

I'm loving the sound of DRUSH but I'm still noob.

I will think about a topic or will come with some questions.

Presentation and IRC

perceptum - Thu, 2010-06-24 20:58

Hi all,

Im happy tp do a short intro to coding JS Drupal.Behaviors, and / or an overview of Drush and how to code drush plugins.

I think I know enough about these two to do introductory stuff, and anything I leave out can be covered in a Q&A afterwards.

Also - for any new people out there - IRC is a good place to hang out and get answers to stuff (like Jonathan said!). #drupal-za is the local channel. Server is irc.freenode.net. #drupal and #drupal-support are also very useful. Ive just put a Druplicon clone bot up that will pop RSS feed items into the channel and generally lurke around. If anyone has Drupal related rss feeds they'd like to aggregate into the channel let me know.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Bryan

Notes from my Single Sign On talk

Thanks for organising this meetup, Jonathan - the venue is great! It was a lot of fun and very cool energy in the room...the beer and cookies helped too ;)

Here's some links to the modules/sites I mentioned last night:

Good idea from Michael at the end - sure, why not create a Facebook group? We're the drupal Cape Town community, so whatever happens is driven by...us! Trying new things is great - some will work, some might not, and the only way to find out is to do it :)

Please post the link here once you've created it, Michael, so that perceptum can feel smugly secure that he's not on Facebook (hehe).

Rocking meeting

Hey all,

Thanks again for the meet-up last night. It was an awesome venue. Theamoeba++ for organising! :)

The drush presentation is up @ http://www.drupaler.co.za/

The drush project page is @ http://drupal.org/project/drush

Heh, I am a bit smug about facebook - thanks Roger! ;) ROFL!! My vote is to get a Facebook page up that points to an Atrium / Standard drupal install that we can build to help facilitate the community. I'd be happy to do the initial setup and host it on our hetzner server. I know Jonathan has setup some mailing lists that we can use as well - which sounds awesome too.

What is the general feeling around doing something like that?
