Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

Agenda:

Lugar: MediaLab Prado (http://medialab-prado.es).

Acerca de la sesión:

  • Módulos de ayuda
  • Técnicas y procedimientos
  • Software de ayuda
  • ¡Traducciones!

El objetivo es terminar las traducciones de los módulos que escojamos, así que no recomiendo proyectos demasiado ambiciosos (abstenerse D7 core).

I have a presentation i can give :

A fast site, faster! : 45 mins / 1 hour session (in English)
Alex McFadyen of Openly Connected presenting some basic modules and configurations you can do to speed up your site a LOT with very little effort. It will cover:
Performance testing
Authcache
APC cache

Would people like this?

Fantastic!

That is an excellent idea. Performance is one of my favourite subjects... to listen to ;-)

Performance it's great

I think that it would be great to attend this presentation.

I give +1

Go for it!

Definitely do it, I'm sure people will find it interesting, and it will also help bring people over to the event =)

I'll try to attend the

I may also see boost vs authcache :) If we get time / i remember.

So apologies, the

So apologies, the presentation didn't go as planed :)

The basic idea was: Hardware is cheaper the programer time, so if your spending programmer time to improve performance, it better be making BIG improvements.

The key points where as follows:
Pages served was tested on a clean install with a few hundred nodes generated by devel, it was tested as an anonymous users hitting /node.

  1. Drupal with all caching turned off is slow. On the test sever i used, could server about 1 page per second.
  2. Drupal with the 'normal' drupal caching enabled can server about 4 pages per second.
  3. Authcache module - http://drupal.org/project/authcache
Designed to allow authenticated users to be served partially cached pages, with the rest being loaded via AJAX, but can also be used to serve full cached pages to non authenticated users.
  4. Cache router - http://drupal.org/project/cacherouter
Allows you to use several different caching methods to speed up cache tables as well as Authcache.
  5. Drupal + Authcache + Cache router using the DB as its store could serve about 8 pages per second
  6. APC - http://php.net/manual/en/book.apc.php / http://blog.janjonas.net/2010-01-04/ubuntu-setup-apc-for-php5-and-apache2
APC is a opcode cache and can also be used by cacherouter as a caching system. It speeds up php and reduces its memory usage. Its MAGIC and if your not using it, you really should be.
  7. Drupal + APC can serve 12 pages per second
  8. Drupal + APC + Authcache + Cache router using APC can serve 17 pages per second

Benchmarking can be done a few ways, one very good way is using JMeter, prebuilt test scripts can be found here : http://groups.drupal.org/node/53963

Dont be scared of authcache and cache router, they are VERY VERY easy to set up and give you a nice speed boost especially if your already running APC.

If your serious about making your site fast, you might want to read up at : http://groups.drupal.org/high-performance and look into some of the other steps you can take. There is a whole world of performance turning out there.

Muchas gracias!

Don't apologize too much, although the demo didn't go as planned, you did well getting the info out =)

Thanks

2 things.

1 - Does the projector accept DVI input? (If not does anyone have a DVI -> VGA convertor, or a VGA adapter for a MacBookPro)
2 - Can someone bring a wireless router, so we can all get net access, not just the presenter ?

There is free internet acces

There is free internet acces for everyone.
We have to ask about the connector.
