"Lightning Talks" for Austin Drupal February meetup?

Hey folks,

I'm only throwing this out as an option since I haven't seen any other ideas for February. If you have an alternative idea, let's hear it!

In the meantime and for our February meetup, what do you think about doing something similar to the Boston's group's Lightning Talks?

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to present for 5 minutes on a topic of their choosing. You may show off your Drupal site, ask some questions of the audience, give a module demonstration, share some marketing ideas for Drupal, and so on. Just keep it brief. No expertise required - just do it.

If we get some positive responses, can someone please volunteer to host the event? And if you volunteer to host, you get to choose the date! Tuesdays and Wednesdays 7-9 pm seem to work best.

I like this idea. It should get more people to contribute ideas and it will also give us a broader range of topics to discuss. I'm down with following this format for the next meetup.

As far as hosting goes, I can host again in February but I'd like to see somebody else get involved and host this month.

I got the okay to use one of the computer classrooms on campus at St. Edward's University to host a weekend meeting. The University is located in south Austin, off Congress, just north of Ben White.

The classrooms should work well for the Lightning Talks format. The rooms have individual computers for participants as well as a computer and overhead projector for the presenter.

Does the weekend of Feb. 9-10 work for people? I'm leaning towards Saturday afternoon, but I'm open to suggestions if that doesn't work well for the group.

I like the idea of quick schniblettes, too, but only with sufficient "presenters" volunteering. I recently implemented uploading videos as an OpenPackage Video node and having either a local-server ffmpeg installation or a remote http://www.openpackage.biz account transcode the video from any format to .flv and return the contents to the node. I would be interested in demonstrating this setup and functionality.
