April LA Drupal Meeting - Tue., 4/29, 7-9:30pm
We meet on the last Tuesday of the month at the Rich Media Institute.

Topics:
Drupal Case Study: X PRIZE Foundation
The X PRIZE Foundation is the brainchild of Dr. Peter H. Diamandis who strongly believes that focused and talented teams in pursuit of a prize and acclaim can change the world. The X PRIZE Foundation creates and manages prizes that drive innovators to solve some of the greatest challenges facing the world today. In May 2004, the X PRIZE was officially re-named the Ansari X PRIZE to reflect the generous multi-million dollar donation from the Ansari family. Later that same year, on October 4, 2004, the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE was awarded to Mojave Aerospace Ventures for the flight of SpaceShipOne.
With the success of the Ansari X PRIZE, the X PRIZE is now viewed as the leading model to leverage the elements of public interest, entrepreneurial spirit and cross-disciplinary innovation to bring about breakthroughs in science, space, and technology that benefit us all.
"Revolution Through Competition."
We're happy to have this cool case study presentation, by Mark Krynsky (krynsky); an LA Drupal member.
X PRIZE Foundation uses Drupal to power various sites, here are some:

Getting Started with Drupal
This "get 'em started" presentation is going to be a good primer for people who are new and are getting into Drupal. Plan to see Drupal being installed on a local machine (Windows/Mac) and other various points covered like, what is a Module, how are permissions granted to users, and what are content types and how do I ender content once my Drupal is installed.
Plus...
In addition to our two presentations of the night we have an open-mic opportunities in the night for those who have general Drupal questions or need help, time for those who are hiring or looking for consultants, upcoming Drupal training announcements, free Lullabot stickers and pins, a message from our Drupalcon L.A. Proposal Group, updates about DrupalCamp LA 2008, and as always, the end of the meeting networking session with the fun and knowledgeable LA Drupal crowd,

ya big dork!
fixed!
we should also post to drupal.meetup.com
I just found out last night that Robert Douglas set this up - http://drupal.meetup.com/
And just this moment I found this post about The Santa Monica Drupal Meetup There are new faces over there! Cool. Maybe they don't even know about our LA group. We should try to coordinate this a bit more.
Anyway, the meetup site looks like a great way to pull in even more people to our group.
Hook it up
Meetup costs money, so hit them up or tell me who to ping.
posting on meetup.com
does anyone know that meddling mike stewart guy? heard he talked to robert douglas about meetup prior to Dr6 release. apparently robert thot it was a good idea. so anyway, meetup got setup, and that mike stewart guy is one of the (now many) meeting organizers.
I'll ask him if he'll post something about the upcoming meetings. I know he posted on meetup about the Drupal booth for SCALE.
I bet if you join the group, he'll even make you an organizer so you can post meetings yourself. seriously.
(doh! this is a lame post :-P)
March meeting?
I have the March meeting informally on my calendar for 3/25 since it's the last tuesday of this month. I'm assuming that's correct, right (unless we're skipping march, etc.)?
You're right on the money, Miguel.
More details about March's meeting are here.
DrupalCon LA progress report
I have one venue that is very interested and in the ballpark. I would like to go over their proposal and next steps.
:( Looks like I'm not going to make it...
Hey guys - I really hate to miss the meetup, and hope that more people show up than ever.
Unfortunately, I have a deadline on my head and a very long drive to come to the meeting, so I'm gonna have to skip this one.
Next month I hope to have some great stuff to share with you regarding using audio and video on your site and more tips about using panels 2 (node overrides, contextual panes, custom layouts)
Another record attendance
We had about the same amount of first-timers, which is always cool, and another attendee record for LA Drupal, with at least 40 people in seats.
