How-to video or web conference dedicated to using OG Panels on groups.drupal.org

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Would it be valuable to you, the group organizers and site admins on groups.drupal.org, to see a how-to video or participate in a live web conference and see how OG Panels on groups.drupal.org's "Pages" tabs can be used? I recently heard that the LA Drupal group's pages were helpful to organizers of a few regional groups, and I'd be happy to share what I know.

More importantly, I think it would be advantageous to all of us (if not fun, at the very least) to have a virtual "local user group organizer" meetup at some point. Heaven knows there are things I don't know about. Even if we don't have a group admin meeting, I'd love to hear from you if OG Panels is new or interesting to you and you'd like to know how to duplicate or build on what I know. We could possibly schedule a Drupal Dojo or WebEx broadcast or something.

Update: Thanks to gusaus, dougvann and salimlakhani, this is on the Dojo schedule for Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 3:30pm. If you'd like to attend, be sure to register over at GoTo Meeting.

Yep, I'd be interested in both a video and a local-user-group organizer meeting.

Thanks for the idea.

my place or yours?

What do you use for web conferences? WebEx is the best bet, I think, since it supports Linux, as where GoTo Meeting (which is what we use) and GoTo Webinar doesn't.

We could also try using the Dojo's DimDim account.

UCI uses webex, Drupal Dojo uses Go To Meeting. I'm sure you can get detailed analysis of this from Gus Austin, Eric Seas, or Doug Vann (maybe they are at #drupal-dojo)

Christefano, head over to http://groups.drupal.org/node/52023 and note that the 19th is available for a GDO+Panels session.
NOTE: GoToWebinar only works on MAC and Windows.
This would be an awesome session for sure! Is the 19th good for you? If not any tuesday thereafter is fine.

Sure, let's do it. Tuesdays are usually pretty busy but I'll see what I can do.

If we can schedule it for 12:30pm Pacific (instead of 12:30pm Eastern) then I can definitely do it.

12:30 PT it is!

OK.
Here shortly I'll get that date reserved for you. 3:30 ET and 12:30 PT!

Drupal Dojo group could be a working example

gusaus's picture

JoshK (aka the DojoFather) did a similar session using the Dojo group as an example -
http://drupaldojo.com/session/using-ogpanels-groupsdrupalorg

By looking at the group in it's current state (http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-dojo), you'll see we're very much in need of an upgrade. @Christefano, I'm not sure if it's realistic to use this as a working example for your Dojo session this Tuesday, but we'd certainly be supportive and would collaborate if you wanted to work that into your session.

RE: A local organizer session could tie in nicely with an ongoing Growing Drupal Track. This is something that hasn't made it past the outdated/unorganized wiki stage - http://groups.drupal.org/node/18328

We could definitely leverage the virtual Drupal Dojo tools/website to promote and move forward.

My plan was to give an

christefano's picture

My plan was to give an overview of the pages used by the LA Drupal group and show how those are set up.

I'm not a frequent visitor to the Dojo home page and at first glance it looks okay to me. Are there specific feature requests that I can roll into my presentation?

Sounds like a good plan

Come to think of it we'll probably have a better idea of what and how we could do after this session. Possibly we can have a working session in #drupal-dojo (IRC) as a followup where you and other g.d.o. wizards could mentor or advise? Also would be great if other group admins could showcase what they've done or ask what they'd like to do. We can fire up the virtual Dojo anytime.

As a follow up to this, we're doing a "How to Rock Your Drupal Group Announcements" how-to on Monday, September 17th:

This is at Droplabs in Downtown Los Angeles and we're recording and broadcasting it via WebEx, as well. Hope to see you there!
