Start:
2010-06-24 08:00 - 17:00 America/Indianapolis
Event type:
User group meeting

After months of planning it is official:
On Thursday, June 24th, Drupalers from across the country are gathering together at the Arlington Central Library Google Map Here for a full day of DRUPAL LIBRARYCAMP.
We strategically planned the event right before the American Library Association's Annual Conference in DC. Event site here This has allowed people from very far away to join us for a smaller sized Drupal event before they dive into the whirlwind of activity with the ALA.

We chose to follow an UNconference model where we all show up, make a list of what every one wants to either learn about OR speak about then break off into ad-hoc groups; each seeking the group that meets the individual's needs. A WIDE range of people are coming to the LibraryCamp; some with years of Library experience, years of Drupal experience, or both. This is going to be a RICH time of sharing and learning for sure!

We're all looking VERY forward to meeting each other and sharing our knowledge and skills as we seek to leverage the awesome power of Drupal for Libraries!

some venue details

The Arlington County Library Central branch page has information about getting to the location by metro or bus: http://centrallibraryarlingtonva.blogspot.com/
If you plan to drive, I am told that although the normal free library parking is 2 hours, you can get an all-day free parking pass for an event in a library meeting room if you enter the library and request one at the information desk. The library opens at 9 (and we should have the room booked from 9-4).

You can have beverages in the room.

There should be wireless access.

There’s a ceiling-mounted projector and screen.

LibraryCamp is as FREE as Drupal

Some one contacted me asking if there was a registration fee for the LibraryCamp.
NOPE :-)
Just like Drupal core and all of its contributed modules.... It's free baby!

More info

Doug,

Is there more info as to who might be talking and some general topics? I know I could definitely learn lots but I would love to bring some members of our team (design company) who aren't familiar with Drupal much. Do you think there will be any intro sessions to throw them into, or should they stay at home?

Speakers and topics

swacktacular's picture

A number of people indicated willingness to go over basic information.
However, here's a more concrete list of people who volunteered to present on specific topics and confirmed their attendance:

• J Blyberg - state of SOPAC (morning)
• D Vann – a variety of topics: What is Drupal?, CCK/VIEWS, Webform Module, Community Involvement, Intro to Module development
• C Evjy - using D6 for staff intranets
• K Coombs – talking about a current project

It seems that there will also probably be a lot of discussion.

so how did this go?

Quite Well

Caleb,
It went rather well.
We had over 16 ppl come. We had a few organized excellent sessions before lunch then after lunch I went through a broad sweep of Drupal as a community and a crash course on site building. Cary chimed in with me as well and filled out the remainder of our time.
I was a bit distracted with some client issues I had to take care of but it would be awesome if someone could publish a better account of what all transpired.
There was plenty of time for networking and hanging out. We really learned a lot just hanging out with each other. We all agreed that better planning was needed for next year's event. Some one said that the ALA publishes their national event schedule way in advance, but I couldn't find it. As soon as we find out where it is we should jump on it!

susanv's picture

Hi Doug,

The ALA conference schedules (for the Midwinter Conference and the Annual Conference) all the way up until 2014 are at:

http://www.ala.org/ala/confservices/upcoming/upcomingconferences.cfm

cheers,
Susan
P.S. I really enjoyed your Street Creds session at the DrupalCamp Colorado. And, I'm doing what you taught us - right?!

Way to get involved!

LOL WTG Susan!
I've heard from some of the attendees of my session on "Getting Street Creds / How to be an active Drupal Citizen!" I proposed the session on a whim and didn't know what ppl would think of it. I believe I'll be doing this again at DrupalCamp Dallas which will coincide with http://openca.mp

Booked

So the next two are:
2011 Midwinter Meeting, San Diego, CA: Jan. 7–12, 2011
2011 Annual Conference, New Orleans, LA: June 23–29, 2011
Many of us were in SF for DrupalCon. I was also recently in Louisiana 7 months ago for DoItWithDrupal when the Lullabots invited me to speak. So I think many of us know those towns fairly well.

does this schedule excite any one and provoke any ideas?

SF != SD

Doug, San Diego and San Francisco are two completely different cities.

According to Google Map's, 502 miles – about 8 hours 25 mins (up to 10 hours 50 mins in traffic).

Road Trip

WHOA!!
I just saw the "SAN" and didn't see the Diego!
LOL
Thanks for pointing that out. WOW! Those larger states can be so confusing!
