WordPress, WordPress, WordPress – all anyone talks about anymore is WordPress.

A recent comparison of the top CMS/blogging platforms found that WordPress is growing at a significantly higher rate than competitors Joomla and Drupal. However, upon closer inspection of the data, it is apparent that Drupal ranks first in one very important category – earnings. At least among freelance and work-at-home Web professionals.

The State of the Work-from-Home and Freelancing Economy Report was conducted by job search engine DoNanza, and the key finding was this: While more professionals are using WordPress, professionals using Drupal are earning more.

In short, the average project for a Drupal user earned twice the amount of a WordPress project. Joomla, incidentally, was slightly higher than WordPress, but an average project still earned about half that of a Drupal project.

More people are turning to WordPress to accomplish their, let’s say, simpler Web business goals. But when a more flexible infrastructure with advanced features is required, Drupal fills that need more effectively.

Much of that flexibility and functionality within the Drupal platform comes from modules, essentially the same thing as WordPress plugins or Joomla extensions. Below are 10 Drupal modules that can launch your web enterprise to higher earnings: Full story: http://bit.ly/df6Ru3

Saw-took the pole. Not surprised on the results. Well, back to learning Drupal modules for me!

Say since I am unemployed and using Drupal, does that mean I am making twice the 'nothing' versus unemployed Joomla and Wordpress develpers? Just wondering...

Ha!

Yes, it means that your unemployment checks will be doubled if you tell the agency you use Drupal rather than Wordpress!

Thanks for the link Nathan, this squares with my experience.

Inspiration!

I have been seriously wondering if I chose the right CMS for my travel company as the learning curve for Drupal is 10x what it takes to learn Wordpress. Thanks Groundswell after I read this article you posted about the 10 modules I suddenly feel in good hands again.

10x the learning curve, perhaps...

...but Roman it is 20x the extensibility and flexibility. Plus we can get as granular as we desire with Drupal.

I agree it is a bit of an uphill climb compared to Wordpress but as one nears the top the view is MUCH better. As a relatively new person
to web stuff and Drupal (myself) I am suggesting hanging in there because your rewards will have you patting yourself on the back for having stayed the course.

If you want an even steeper curve, go for Joomla!

Much success to you,

Christopher

Light At The End Of The Tunnel!

Thanks Opegasus. I guess my original comment and yours was about 5 months ago. The learning had been dreadfully slow till this week my developer did a teaching seminar as a screencast for just my website. He was teaching me basically just how to fully create articles and nice documents, but all of a sudden the lights went on. He was a superb teacher. Yes, now I am starting to warm to, actually I really like Drupal < 1st time I publicly will admit that one, and I can now see that someday the fully functionality will be a blessing not a curse. Glad to be here:)
