How do you build sites, what are your favorite tools? I wrote down a few thoughts on my blog yesterday. I'd like to hear what your modus operandi is; feel free to add to this thread.

Favorite Tools

CCK is a favorite tool of mine. Along with that, the modules I use are Image Uploader and Galleria. I am getting deeper into graphics rather than programming (which is why CCK is a good tool to have to balance myself out). But balance is an great thing to have at Drupal. (done well, you can have it all.. with the ease of use - you can actually have a personal life as well).

My development environment is

My development environment is very close to the OP. I'm just getting started with Drupal again after 3 year break. So I use a lot of new toolz, like Wamp (local server) a Fusion subtheme (Fusion has lots of built-in goodies and makes fuller use of Skinr module than any other theme), Display Suite (almost better than panels) and of course CCK and views. I would like learn to learn more about Drush, but I haven't had a lot of free time to play with it. Plus, the Features module is suppose to be better :/

Features and drush are apples

Features and drush are apples and oranges; one doesn't replace the other. Drush is a command line interface to Drupal that can be used for many maintenance and development tasks. Features is a way of packaging the components of a site feature, which might contain content types, modules, and other aspects of a feature.

And both are really great time savers!

Newest Module I am Playing with: Display Suite

I just started using Display Suite and it's my new favorite module.

Out of the box, CCK View Pages are sometimes just a pain to style. Display Suite easily allows you to take the elements from CCK and place them on your page in many different ways. Basically, it takes the area where you normally place your content and allows you to place the elements in one of five blocks in your content area: header, footer, left sidebar, right sidebar and middle. Drag and drop your data into place.

That's pretty cool but even better yet, you can take any view or any block and add it to the list of objects that you can display on your page. So you have all of the CCK elements plus any view or block you have created. You can place this right into the content section of your page and again, arrange the pieces into the header, footer, right, left, middle sections.

And if that isn't cool enough, you can do this for the full node, the teaser, sticky pages, rss feeds and tokens.

Sure beats copying page.tpl.php and rewriting your output.

Lots more to learn about it. Check it out when you get a chance.
