How to (best) participate in this group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

If you're new to Drupal, or Drupal groups, it may seem like a lot of stuff is happening, and it's difficult to keep up. If you just want to focus on a few groups (like DrupalMentor - http://groups.drupal.org/drupalmentor-bayarea - and maybe some other focused topic areas), it makes more sense to subscribe to these groups - which allows you to post content, as well as recieve info via email.

To do so, you'll first need to register on this site (groups.drupal.org). If you already have a login you use at www.drupal.org, you can use that one here as well (but remember to add the full domain to your URL - i.e. myname@drupal.org).

Once you're registered and logged-in to groups.drupal.org, navigate to a group you're interested in - using the block on the right-hand side called New Groups (click "more" to see the full list - also here: http://groups.drupal.org/groups). Once you've clicked on a group, you'll see a block on the right with the group name, and "subscibe". Once you've subscribed, you'll see the other members of the group, and the options to post content. (And if you don't see "subscribe, youre either not logged-in, or you are already subscribed).

Finally, to receive any new content posted to this group via email (as opposed to needing to come back to the website all the time), click on the "my subscription" link in the group block on teh right; then enable email notification.

Voila - now you're part of a group (hopefully, DrupalMentor!), can post contents or events, and will recieve any new content via email.

nice writeup. i'll just add that new registrants on this groups site get email notifications for their subscribed groups automatically now. also, there is a handy page for <a href='http://groups.drupal.org/groups/my">managing your email subscriptions.

welcome, everyone.
