Let Me Introduce Myself

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hey!

I'm Paul. I started this group because I thought that Drupal integrated with Eve Online could create some really awesome websites throughout the Eve Online communities.

I'm back in college, retraining for what will be my final career in Information Security and Database Administration, so my skillset is not as advanced as most of yours are, but I am eager to learn.

You can place me reliably at an advanced novice level in Drupal, PHP, HTML/CSS.

When you join, add your own introductory message to the mix to get acquainted.

Paul

I wish to introduce myself. My name is Eric and I ran across your group whilst exploring this site. It so happens that I too am an EVE player and I am also interested in EVE Drupal integration. I'm just finishing up my masters degree in information systems. I'm not a developer Per se but I have a real interest in it. I too have recently returned to school. Its been 20+ years since I earned my bachelors degree.

I'm very happy to have found your group and I hope I can make a valuable contribution.

Best regards,

Eric A.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome, Eric!

Glad to have you aboard. That you stumbled upon this group is exactly why it was created. We're (going to be) a central clearinghouse for Drupal modules developed to promote integration with Eve Online. I'm developing a website intending to be our corporate headquarters. To that end, I want the site to handle API queries, as well as validate API keys from members in order to maintain their active state on the site. Additionally, I'd like to see the site handle our Teamspeak server authentication for members automatically.

The more I describe it, the larger the project becomes. lol Anyway, I'm hoping eventually to integrate a number of other modules (that someone will have to write) and eventually have an Install profile with Drupal to allow any corporation/alliance to create their own site very easily.

That's my current goal, anyway. I'm still in school, working toward my certifications, retraining for my 'final' career before retirement in Information Security and Database Administration.

Take care, and fly safe,

Paul

Thanks!

I'm looking foreword to contributing to the projects wherever I can be most useful. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Best regards,

Was any progress made with anything here? I'm looking at Drupal as a potential platform for a corp site and if there are already a ton of modules being developed that could help with that then great. If not, it's a shame this died I'd have been willing to donate some of my (admittedly rare) free time to the cause.

Why it's been so quiet.

It's still alive, just not yet into general distribution.

Very little time available with school and the Drupal learning curve.

Also, hardware problems have pitched their own sand into the gears. Those should be repaired in another week or so.

What's happening now...

Paul Simard's picture

OK, it's been a while. I'm quite busy with school, and my hard drive fried recently. That said, there's been admittedly little progress. I've been climbing (slowly, at times) the Drupal learning curve, and pitching bits into the mix in other areas.

Progress...

I've been made a co-maintainer of Eve-IGB and EvE IGB Fixups. And I have posted one dev release on Eve IGB. NOT FUNCTIONAL as yet, but at least it's out there for everyone who cares to work on it.

One major issue is that the IGB has changed from moondoggie to chromium since the module was first published, so I'm having to do some testing and tweaking to update compatibility with the IGB. Also, CCP has ... hmm ... adjusted some of the capabilities for security purposes, so I'm trying not to rock that boat.

CCP is updating the API key mechanism, as well. It's being tested by other 3rd party developers, and should be released soon as well. It could make for some interesting future possibilities, as well.

Other activities include continuing the design for the Eve Online Integration package. Current initial release will include the capability to create the drupal website account only using the IGB provided a reliable means for browser detection can be assured, but external access can be allowed once the account is created. Basically, the user using the IGB can be identified using the headers, and basic information retrieved via the API to verify corporation membership. More detailed information will require a valid API key, and the corporation directors can configure the exact degree of API access that the member is required to maintain. A cron job to verify API credentials for all members will be included as well.

The process flow from the user's perspective is:

  • The corporate director configures the module and API verification requirements on installation.
  • (Added) Eve SSO (when released) will be the authentication mechanism of choice.
  • A new corp member must from the IGB access the site giving it trusted status.
  • New member re-accesses the website.
  • Special landing page for new members for account setup.
  • User enters API key, or is prompted to obtain one by the site, then enters key obtained.
  • Site verifies sufficiency of access, then proceeds with remainder of account creation.
  • The site will obtain the image from Eve's Image servers which will become the user's photo.

Anyway, that's all that's currently planned for the first release. Basically, it will reliably allow users to create accounts on a website using Drupal with only their game avatars, and a valid API key. A real-world email address will be required for things like password resets, but any hotmail-type account will work for this. The idea is to permit anonymity by the end-users via role-play. It should also short-stop any complaints of intrusion into player privacy issues.

That's what's up as of now. There will be more later, I promise... as time permits.

Hi yea

I am big EVE fan too. Will be happy to get involved.

I am no expert at anything but will always into kicking things around..

OMG Am I slow or what?

Welcome.

Sorry to take so freaking long to get back to you. Interruptions of the real world, hardware failures, funds shortages, etc. keep getting in the way. Not to mention school, finishing school, and graduating from the programs taken.

Glad to have newbies (to Drupal) aboard. I'm still something of a Drupal newbie myself, though I am advancing up the cliff. This project will be working in V7.x initially.

Still getting the infrastructure in place, but am working in my scarce free time, so no time commitments in place. The project will have extended long idle periods, but will slowly advance as time permits and learning cliff ascent permit.
