In short, LinuxWorldExpo is coming! Drupal needs a booth. Oh, and some volunteers to help make it happen. You in? (I'll help).
I helped organize and run a booth at Southern California Linux Expo (SCALE). The huge success surprised me! Probably in large part because Angie Byron (webchick) was a GREAT session speaker. (Addison Berry (add1sun) was also supposed to host a session, but unfortunately ended up getting sick).
This morning I saw this picture/post from Berlin - this post about LinuxTag 2008 - in Berlin on www.drupal.org/talk. Wow! Looks cool!
I wondered what local Linux events are coming up. Brings me to the point of my post, LinuxWorldExpo is scheduled Aug 4-7 at Moscone Center.
Even more interesting is the Drupal world has Barry Jaspan, drupal core developer, now at Acquia, scheduled to host a session on Thursday at Linux World 2008.
Does someone have some contacts at the event or know if they offer booths for projects/user groups, to host a booth? Scale did, that's how we got in. Seems likely LinuxWorldExpo would help promote some community sponsorship.
Seems it'd be good exposure for Drupal to have a booth to support Barry's session. Joomla has done it in the past - don't know if anyone from their community is planning to host a booth for this event.

Count me in
Mike,
WorkHabit would be happy to help out. I'll be down there, and will see if I can drag along another as well.
Count us in as volunteers.
Acquia is organizing a Booth and Bof
Hello, Acquia is organizing a Booth and a BoF. Barry Jaspan, also from Acquia is going to be doing a presentation during the conference. I would love it if we could get some volunteers to help with attending the booth. We've got a Drupal event kit we have put together that we can use for this event.
Cheers,
Kieran

Hello, looks like the deadline for the .org pavillion was missed.
Here are the costs for the pavillion from the LinuxWorld organizer: "our minimum booth size is a 10x10 @ $52 = $5,200. You are welcome to bring in your own monitor. Here are some basic costs from GES, our designated designer at the Moscone Center:
carpet - $162.75 (padding adds $148.50)
6 ft table - $120.50
2 chairs - $125
if you need power - $119.50
if you need internet - $1,095
Please see the link below to our exhibitor service manual on our site:
*scroll down to carpet,furniture &turnkey

As you can see by what is listed in the manual, there is quite a bit to chose from and prices vary. It all depends on your needs. "
My guess at this point is this is too expensive.Let me know if anyone is interested in splitting a booth.
Cheers,
Kieran

$2700 covered
Hello, $2700 of the Booth cost is now covered.
We are now looking at a cost of $3000. This would be a good opportunity for a Drupal hosting company to get a lot of attention.
