Hi All,
I had a general question about Drupal usage in China. Does anyone have a feel for the level of recognition and usage of Drupal in China? I was involved in finding a web design company for a web portal project a while ago. Of the companies we looked at, they all appeared to be using their own in house CMS (developed in either PHP or ASP). Got me wondering whether Drupal is well known here? And if not, then why not?
What about other open source CMS platforms?
Be interested in people's opinions.
Regards,

Not widely enough
My gut feeling is not widely enough.
The few developers I've introduced to Drupal seem to love it and in at least one case has gone on to evangelize Drupal to others.
As to why it's not more popular, I'm not sure but would like to know. Back in Drupal 5 there were enough untranslatable bits of interface as to cause a problem, but that's not the case now. The only complaint I regularly get seems to be about the forum module, but I wonder if there are other common features for Chinese websites which Drupal doesn't do well or easily.
Documentation on Drupal in Chinese exists, but probably isn't as easy to find information on as for Chinese grown CMSes (often purchased, not necessarily developed in house). I don't know the stats but it also seems to me that a larger proportion of servers run IIS in China which probably leads to a prevalence of ASP based solutions.
