D7 JavaScript and AJAX for Developers

There have been many significant changes in Drupal 7 that affect how we as developers can incorporate JavaScript elements into the functionality we build. This session will cover the AJAX framework as it relates to dynamic form elements and non-form-related AJAX functionality; the use of JS libraries; leveraging the improved flexibility of the Drupal JavaScript API. It will provide some concrete examples of common functionality and how easy it is to achieve in Drupal 7. This will be a similar presentation to Katherine's Drupalcon Chicago 2011 talk.

Katherine Bailey is a Senior Developer at Work at Play who has been actively contributing to Drupal in various ways since 2008. Her most well-known contribution is the Quicktabs module, through the development of which she has learned pretty much everything she knows about using JavaScript and AJAX in Drupal; her most recent contribution is the Incremental Deploy module, which allows for deployment of content, as it's changed, from one Drupal site to another, built on top of Deploy module.

Views for Hackers

In this talk, Karim will present Views from an architectural, top-down perspective. Starting with the 10,000-foot-high conceptual view, we will progressively drill down on the details until we hit the code.

Here are some of the topics covered in the talk:

• Adding new tables for Views consumption
• Writing plugins and handlers for all sorts of Views entities
• Hacking Views internals when needed

Karim will base the presentation on real-life modules and puzzles where we examine existing solutions to gain an understanding of Views programming.

This presentation is a trimmed-down, dry run of the presentation I will give at DrupalCon Chicago. Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

Karim Ratib, a French speaking Egyptian Vancouverite, is a long-time contributor and maintainer of Views Bulk Operations, Sheetnode, and many other modules. He is currently a Freelance Drupal Developer working with The Jibe Multimedia, Inc. and Corebox.

Attendees are invited to share their experience by giving a 2 to 4 minute presentation on any topic of interest to the Drupal community. If you want to use a laptop to show a website or control panel please be sure you have the necessary cable to connect to an overhead projector.
