Well, as you may already know I'm Slimgoody. I'm sure no one has noticed me around Drupal, due to the fact that I have been doing nothing but lurking and reading. I've been working on my drupal site since last year and I've gotten pretty acquainted with Drupal as a whole.

The funny thing about that is once I finally got acquianted with Drupal, they turned around and released Drupal 7! How convienant and nice of them. I tried to hold on to Drupal 6 for as long as I could before I finally gave in. I purchased a $60 template from Rockettheme which is not compatible with Drupal 7. The theme itself was funky and I so want to upgrade it, so I can use it in the Drupal 7 version but I'm not sure thats going to happen. I think we have to be careful when it comes to purchasing themes from third party companies, I believe in the end they become a waste. Especially if they are hard to update or upgrade.

Out of all the CMS's I've tried, Drupal is the one that I have gotten the furthest with. I've put together a fully functional site with Dolphin Boonex, a half site with Joomla. I've worked with Socialgo and I've worked with Kickapps. I've also worked with Elgg and PHPfox. Let me be the one to tell you that all of them have their perks but Drupal has them all beat due to the fact that they offer so much more when it comes to extending your site. The social platforms like socialgo and Kickapps is just a waste of money if you ask me. You are limited to the amount of traffic you can have and you have to pay extra money for ever small EXTRA you want for your site. Drupal to me isn't the easiest CMs to learn but once you get the hang of things, I think it naturally becomes simple. I'm still learning so don't consider me an expert yet. I have a long way to go before I cross that path. OPEN SOURCE is the reason why I fell in love with Drupal, plus it comes with tons of modules. If you aren't web savvy and if you aren't willing to learn the basics, then you may want to skip Drupal and look for one of those out of the box CMS softwares.

I will say this, Drupal 7's administration area ROCKS now! It's better organized. I can find things easier and I can better understand the setup. Things aren't repeated all over the place and it just looks better.

I had to start over on my project when I setup Drupal 7 but thats ok. I'm willing to start again and get it done right the second time around. I'm currently working on a Music project. Not just any music project but THE NEXT BIG THING. I'm pretty excited because I had a decent setup going on Drupal 6. Now I have to get those ideas up on Drupal 7.

Any who, lets get this Newbie Group going with some hot ideas, topics and module creations. I want to learn all of these things. I'm a bit slow.....so please take your time in the discussions! I will give what I have learned and hopefully you all will do the same. Plus I want to collaborate and meet some cool people. I'm trying to get out of the "work alone," mentality but after seeing Facebook the movie, I'm not sure that's a good idea. :/

With that being said, What is it that you do and don't like about Drupal 7?

Peace and Blessings,
Slimgoody
