Rich (code) editor?

I've hacked together an integration module for the EditArea rich code editor: sort of a What You Hack Is What You Get kind of experience. As such, it's got a more limited user base than FCK/MCE would.

I styled/copied this module on/from fkceditor.module as that's the one I'd had the most experience with, and I wasn't sure what sort of uptake wysiwyg.module was enjoying. If it is moving forward, is EditArea a kind of editor that should fall under the banner of WYSIWYG? As there are some klunky parts of the fckeditor.module template, I would be happy to do a rewrite if it lead to more useable functionality, but want to be sure it's something that would even see use and be appropriate.
